Rashad Evans Pushes Back Fight With Alexander Gustafsson, Says Leg Won’t Be Ready Until March 2015

Another day, another fight that Alexander Gustafsson can’t have.

After being pushed aside in favour of Daniel Cormier, who was chosen by the UFC to get the next title shot against Jon Jones, being coaxed into a fight with Anthony Johnson (only to have it pulled while domestic abuse charges against him are verified), now it is Rashad Evans who has pulled out of a match against the unlucky Swede.

Evans wanted a fight with Gustafsson but said that he had to test his leg out first. Evans tore his ACL in February and after experimenting with his knee in training, quickly realized that he wouldn’t be ready to fight Gustafsson anytime soon.

The news was first reported on UFC Tonight.

“My leg isn’t strong,” Evans said. “I can’t explode off it like I normally used to be able to and it still feels unstable. My management team wouldn’t let me take the fight. Glenn [Robinson, his manager] said, ‘At this stage of your career there is no need to rush into a fight especially coming back from a major injury’.”

He added that he is looking to March 2015 as a possible return date.
