CM Punk will not return to World Wrestling Entertainment.

On tonight’s UFC 181 PPV, Phil “CM Punk” Brooks announced that he has signed a multi-fight deal with UFC. In an interview with Joe Rogan, Brooks said that the decision to compete as a professional MMA athlete is something that has been “in the back of [his] mind for a very long time.”

The former WWE champion said that he said he couldn’t let go of the idea of stepping into the Octagon and is “an opportunity” he wasn’t able to deny himself. When Rogan asked if this would be a one-fight circus attraction, Brooks said that it wasn’t and that MMA was his new career.

Brooks didn’t reveal which training camp he would be joining but that he would likely be competing at middleweight with welterweight also being option.

No word on when his debut fight will take place, but it will be in 2015.
