In an early announcement to retailers, Lionsgate has revealed that the fall action hit John Wick will be making its arrival to Blu-ray on February 3rd. It will be preceded by a Digital HD release on January 13th.
Netting strong praise from critics and those audiences who took a chance to see if Keanu Reeves could recapture the action stature he gained with films like Speed and The Matrix trilogy (and subsequently lost with the likes of 47 Ronin), John Wick was an action-thriller that played like a comic book movie with a hitman seeking vengeance on those who killed his dog. Yes, his dog.
Directed and produced by a pair of Hollywood stuntmen (Chad Stahelski and David Leitch), the cast included the likes of Michael Nyqvist (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Adrianne Palicki (from TV’s “Friday Night Lights” and G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Ian McShane, John Leguizamo and Willem Dafoe.
The Blu-ray special features are set to include audio Commentary with filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, plus six featurettes on the stunts, the action, the look and location among other aspects (“Don’t F*#% With John Wick”, “Calling in the Cavalry”, “Destiny of a Collective”, “Assassin’s Code”, “Red Circle”, and “NYC Noir”).
When sadistic young thugs senselessly attack John Wick (Reeves) – a brilliantly lethal ex-assassin – they have no idea that they’ve just awakened the boogeyman. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, Wick embarks on a merciless rampage, hunting down his adversaries with the skill and ruthlessness that made him an underworld legend.
