Features

Inside Pulse launched on August 9, 2004, and has covered the world of wrestling for over a decade. Every day, we take a look back at what was happening in the world of wrestling 10 years ago, as reported right here at Inside Pulse!

The Smackdown Short Form, 01.06.05

Okay, here’s the weekly excuse for Wednesday: On Tuesday, we got caught in the ice storms that nailed the entire Midwest. My Net access was down from sometime on Tuesday night to sometime after I left for work on Wednesday. Thus, no column. Sorry.

Since I don’t have anything witty or intelligent to say, I’ll just move on to something less witty and intelligent, namely Smackdown…

THE SMACKDOWN SHORT FORM

Match Results:

Rey-Rey over Eddy Guerrero (Pinfall, small package): I’ve been talking in the Raw Short Form about matches that you know are going to be great going in simply due to the competitors. Here’s one of the few examples on Smackdown of that. The knock on Rey-Rey is that he can’t wrestle mat-based psychological matches. I think he answered all of his critics with this one. It was a terrific example of both psychology and anglo-lucha, something I’ve been a big fan of since it was pioneered in WCCW over twenty years ago. And it included an equally terrific ref bump that, for once, worked. Kudos to all involved for fifteen minutes of pure pleasure.

WWE Bottomline Report 8/1/05

This is my very first report. If you’ve got a minute, toss me an email with feedback.

Introduction video…and Mark Lyod is here with us, telling us that just maybe we’ll see some stuff from last Monday’s RAW. He begins talking about Batista, and how he got the best time on Raw…two weeks ago, which gives him the last entrance in the Elimination Chamber. Last week, it was three matches with all six participants in singles matches, which flows nicely into our first match, Chris Benoit Vs Batista.

The match begins with batista shoving Benoit into the corner, but being reversed into a Crossface, which really looks more like an overhead rear choke than a crossface. Perhaps because of this, Batista is able to power up into a standing position and move over to the corner, and proceed to ram Benoit’s head into the corner until the hold is broken. Batista gets up, looks angry, picks up Benoit and delivers the Demon bomb for the pin!

Rasslin Roundtable: WWE RAW Presents New Year’s Revolution

Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler vs. Muhamman Hassan

PK: If there is one thing Lawler is good at, it’s putting some new kid over.
Winner Hassan

Eric Szulczewski: In order to build up Hassan’s repulsive heel credentials, there’s no way in hell Lawler’s going to win this one. After all, it’s not in Memphis. Let’s hope Hassan beats the piss out of him.
Winner – Mohammed Hassan

Joshua Grutman: The King is going to avenge Hassan’s hate filled ways and prove that America truly is the home of the brave, land of the free, and place where other stuff happens! But he’ll lose when the Kat makes a run in and Jerry starts weeping uncontrollably. Homo.
Winner – Hassan

Kurtis Osterlund: NEXT!
Winner – Muhammad Hassan

Jed Shaffer: Getting into a war with an announcer is crimson death. See Tazz and Raven. Not to mention Hassan’s heat is centered around timing and ethnicity, and that did SO well for La Rez. And since Vince is gonna play to the morons on this one…
Winner – The old, lecherous f*ck

Raven West: This makes perfect sense in Puerto Rico. Anybody who has their 1st feud with an announcer is doomed from the start.
Winner Hassan

Blatt: Woo hoo! My first roundtable! Hassan simply can’t lose this match. If he did, we’d be looking at a disaster of Mordechai proportions here. Hassan’s on his way to being the top heel in the company and not wrestling one match yet. This has to be handled carefully or else this whole thing will blow up. I just hope that he can back up his heat with a great ring performance.
Winner Hassan and freedom for Arab Americans to be who they want to be

Gordi: It’s pretty unlikely that this match will be any good, but the crowd heat should cover for that fairly well. I am curious to see if JR will mispronounce Muhammad’s name
