With a strong contingency of British Oscar voters, the BAFTAs always offer conversation as to how they are leaning when it comes to the Academy Awards. 2014 is particularly interesting as the Oscar race features a few British productions that are looking for recognition in the acting and Best Picture categories.
The list that follows below has some lay-up selections (i.e., Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne), notable snubs for Mr. Turner (no acting nomination for Timothy Spall), and a few surprises – Rene Russo getting a supporting actress nom when she’s been overlooked by many this awards’ season.
Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel leads all films with 11 nominations. British productions Under the Skin and Pride have also been recognized.
The EE British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
