Never a straight forward move in WWE…
WWE announced that Macho Man Randy Savage would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015. They made the announcement by leaking it to TMZ.com during the day, and then building interest for the announcement during the 3 Hour Raw broadcast on USA.
The original plan was to announce Savage on the January 26th, 2015 Raw, which is the first Raw after the Royal Rumble 2015.
There was concern because of possible low ratings – the ratings the last two weeks were very low, and the NCAA College Football championship game between Oregon and Ohio State is expected to draw a big rating. There was legitimate concern that the rating could be the lowest in 17 years, so the decision was made to boost the show with the Savage news.
