AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #13
Will the latest installment of “Spider-Verse” break the Net?? It’s been enjoyable seeing multiple versions despite the fact that the cohesiveness is somewhat lacking.

BATMAN & ROBIN #38
Robin is now officially a Super Friend!!! It’s about time DC Comics catches up to that designation from Saturday morning cartoons of yore. Why not take on a different angle?

ELFQUEST #1 for $1 edition
A really affordable way to read ‘unknown’/‘off the radar’ books from the days of yore. I’m opening my mind more and more to independent works and this will be no exception.

JUSTICE LEAGUE GOES INSIDE THE NBA ALL-STAR 2015
I don’t know if I’ll be able to get this at my local comic store but I’m sure as hell gonna try!! I had no idea this was even a thing but now my interest is piqued! I’m falling for the gimmick.

SENSATION COMICS feat. WONDER WOMAN #6
WONDER WOMAN #38

A double dose of the First Lady of Comics. She’s the absolute best as far as I’m concerned. I can’t wait til the third monthly title hits the stands. SENSATION is easy enough to read and enjoy without getting caught up in the controversy of continuity. It is a real showcase for various writers and artists.

I like David Finch’s art. I was floored with the big reveal in #37. I’m giving Meredith Finch a chance. Bottom line: no matter how poo-poo WW has been in previous volumes, I still buy the book because I. ADORE. THE. AMAZING. AMAZON.

SUPERIOR IRON MAN #4
When I bought and read the first issue, I thought “one-and-done”. I truly didn’t expect to get hooked. I’m not the biggest Tony Stark fan either. I like seeing him well enough in the cinematic world or in animation but I don’t commit to his monthly. Nevertheless, I was hooked. I couldn’t believe the depths he achieved with his douchbaginess. It doesn’t hurt that my third fave Marvel hero Daredevil is also a part of the first arc. Plus, I’m intrigued by the classic Iron Man hiding in the shadows working with Pepper in trying to knock some sense into Tony ‘Douche Supreme’ Stark.

Mike “Skitch” Maillaro

  • Powers #1 – There is something appropriate about Powers’ latest issue 1 being a few weeks late. Delays have always been the bane of this book’s existence. BUT, Powers has pretty much always been brilliant, so I’m willing to accept the delays as the price of admission. Powers is typically a detective story set in a universe with superheroes and villains, though the last few volumes have added a lot of political intrigue on top of that. At the end of the last series, Walker and Pilgrim realized that they had been working for the same conspiracy that had killed FG-3 way back in Powers Vol. 1, so I’m curious to see how Bendis plans on getting them back to solving crimes.
  • Groo: Friends and Foes #1 – A 12-issue Groo series?? Groo has basically been playing Where’s Waldo the last few years. A mini-series here and there, but for the most part Groo’s been missing from comic shelves. Last year’s Conan Vs Groo was a reminder of how much I missed the character. It will be nice to actually have some consistent Groo for the next year or so. Hopefully, this will lead into another Groo ongoing series.
  • Batman And Robin #38 – Batman leads a team of heroes to Apokolips to bring his son Damian back from the dead. And now the revived Damian has superpowers! On the surface, this sounds like a comic that has really lost its way, but somehow Peter Tomasi continues to make this a compelling read. It is arguably the best Batman book out right now, and that’s saying a lot since Batman and Batman Eternal are both great too.
  • Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues #1 – The first time I saw Galaxy Quest, I actually hated the movie. I thought it was a brilliant idea for a movie, and the cast was great. But, for some reason, I just couldn’t get into it. I think I was just in a bad mood that night. I’ve seen it on DVD and cable many times after, and it’s become one of my favorite movies. I’m not really sure it needed a comic follow up series, but I’m definitely going to check it out.
  • Superior Iron Man #4 – Evil Tony Stark is evil!! I was hooked on this book from the last page of the first issue where Stark basically offered San Fransiscans a perfect life…but it ended up being a freemium scam. From there, the series has continued to get even more disturbing with Stark giving Daredevil back his sight, just to take it away again. I honestly have no idea where this series is going, but they have hooked me along for the ride.
  • Ivar Timewalker #1 (Of 4) – It was always a contest each month to see which was my favorite Valiant book, Quantum and Woody or Archer and Armstrong. Most months ended up too close to call. Ivar has been a great character since the original Valiant books, so I’m glad to see him getting a new mini-series here, especially with Archer and Armstrong along for the ride. It especially helps that Fred Van Lente and Clayton Henry are the creative team.

Alexander Lucard

  • G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #210 -If Larry Hama writes it, I will buy it. Which means in April I’ll have a Batman and a Wonder Woman mini-series coming my way.
  • Groo Friends and Foes #1 I’ve been buying Groo since he was the lynchpin of Marvel’s Epic Comics’ imprint in the 80s.There’s no way I’d pass upa full year of mulching, cheese dip and frays.
  • Ivar, Timewalker #1. A new Valiant series? Sure, why not! Ivar was has always gotten the short end of the stick out of the three Ani-Parda brothers since the Jim Shooter days of the company. I’m excited to what the current Valiant guiys do with him. Hell, I usually hate time travel stories, but I’m excited for this one.
  • Trinity of Sin #4. I can’t believe this is ending so quickly. It hasn’t been good, but I’m getting it because I want to support Phantom Stranger and The Question.
  • The Valiant #2. I’m looking forward to seeing where this series is going.

John Babos

Nine books this week. Did not think I’d pick up Wonder Woman again, yet here I am.

My picks this week:

  • All-New X-Men #35 – Miles Morales is still hanging with the X.
  • Batman and Robin #38 – Superrobin! Wonderful turn of events.
  • Earth 2 World’s End #16 and New 52 Futures End # 38 – The road to Convergence. I’m more of a fan of Futures End, but World’s End has its moments.
  • Ivar Timewalker #1 – I am sucker of Valiant’s immortal Anni-Padda brothers. Now it’s Ivar’s turn after Armstrong and the Eternal Warrior.
  • Justice League #38 – Batman is the last Leaguer to get the Amazo Virus. However, will the Justice League conquer this?
  • Teen Titans #6 – Love the art on this book.
  • The Valiant #2 – Bloodshot and friends. What’s not to love.
  • Wonder Woman #38 – What’s next for Donna Troy?

At this point, the conversation took some strange turns…

Paul Miranda: I admire you Babos for sticking with WW *_*. I also luv ur comment re: Superrobin. Well said, Babos

Mike Maillaro: I am still trying to figure out how Superrobin wasn’t “jumping the shark.”

John Babos: Superrobin is can leap higher than a Shark, Mike Maillaro? And, Paul Miranda, I’m only picking this up to see what’s next for Donna Troy. I am not committed to this title since the creative team change.

Paul Miranda: Babos, I’m committed to WW always & forever!! Paul Miranda Funny enough, Donna Troy doesn’t turn my crank.

Mike Maillaro: I had never read Wonder Woman until Sensation Comics…which I loved…and then was put on hiatus in the middle of a two part arc to replace with Wonder Woman ’77. Sigh

Also, Babos, I laughed at the Superobin can leap higher than a Shark.

John Babos: But, Mike Maillaro, can Superrobin leap higher than a Sharknado? THAT is the question.

My fave runs on WW were the George Perez period, the John Byrne period, the Phil Jiminez period, and the Azz New 52 period. Also, enjoyed some pre-crisis stuff, but I wasn’t reading too much back then. However, you may be pleased to know I started reading Superman / Wonder Woman after the new creative team came on board.

Paul Miranda: Ironically, I dropped SUPES/WW after #6. I didn’t want to bother with the DOOMED x-over. Now, I’m hesitant about picking it up again.

John Babos: In Tomasi, I trust, Paul.

Mike Maillaro: Superobin could kick Sharknado’s ass!

Do Sharknados have asses?

James Fulton

  • Crossed Plus 100 #2 – I liked the way that Alan Moore made his Crossed story, set one hundred years into the future, more about the way in which society has started to rebuild itself and recover lost knowledge than about ways to come up with ridiculously gory and unsettling covers. I love post-Apocalyptic stories that are about how people move on, so this really works with me.
  • Ivar, Timewalker #1 – I find that I really miss Archer and Armstrong, so I am hoping that Fred Van Lente’s writing on this title, which features Armstrong’s time-travelling brother, with scratch that itch. I hope this book stands on its own, and isn’t too indebted to that former title, but I also want it to be as well-written and amusing. I’m sure it will be.
  • Moon Knight #11 – Brian Wood has done a great job of taking the groundwork laid by Warren Ellis and turning it into an interesting, more involved story that does not feel all that conventional. I’m curious to see what happens to Mark Spector now that Khonshu’s left him, and is gunning for an African dictator.
  • The Wicked + The Divine #7 – I can’t imagine there ever being a time when I’m not excited to read a book by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. This series has been pretty interesting, and I like the direction that this latest arc is taking.
  • The Kitchen #3 – The Kitchen has been pretty terrific so far. It’s about a trio of Irish-American women who, when their husbands are sent to jail, decide to take over their little criminal empire in 1970s New York City. It’s a nice study of some very strong women, with some excellent Ming Doyle artwork.

Joe Smith

  • Ivar, Timewalker #1 – Fred Van Lente and Clayton Henry…that alone has me sold on buying this. We finally get to see what the third brother is up to now.
  • The Valiant #2 – I enjoyed the first issue quite a bit. It nicely draws in a lot of different characters and books together. It’s kind of what I thought Unity was going to feel like when I first read it. I also like the current Geomancer and it’s good to see her getting some substantial panel time here.
  • Justice League #38 – Looking forward to getting this one big time. The Amazo Virus storyline has been pretty damn enjoyable thus far.
  • Rumble #2 – This is a mild pickup for me as I found some sequences confusing in the first issue. It’s a light week and it’s more of a “why not” pickup than anything. The one thing that worked alright for me was the main character and he is pretty clueless and unaware that he’s a d-bag.
Mike Maillaro is a lifelong Jersey Boy and geek. Mike has been a comic fan for about 30 years from when his mom used to buy him Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Adventures at our local newsstand. Thanks, Mom!! Mike's goal is to bring more positivity to the discussion of comics and pop culture.
