Tonight’s Lucha Underground shows much promise! It was teased that we would see the blue Demon tonight after his return last week in Aztec warfare and that Prince Puma would Defend his Lucha underground title!

After the beginning vignettes reminding the audience of feuds and storylines that most likely will be addressed on tonight episode, the show kicks off with a back stage segment between Dario Cueto and Fenix. During this promo Mr. Cueto offered the opportunity to face Prince Puma for the Lucha belt. He made it a point to stress he has defeated Prince Puma in the past and seize this opportunity, if not someone else will! Confidently Fenix tells him he fights for himself and his own honor, which allowed Cueto to acknowledge that’s a positive he sees within Fenix and that he sees him as the future of Lucha Underground. After this exchange the camera zoomed in on a female face in the background watching, I assume this could be Catrina spying for Mil Muertes.

Now to the arena, we see the camera pan in and out show casing a band getting the crowd hype and we turn to Matt Stryker and Vampiro to further hype the show, plugging the title match and confrontation between Chavo and Blue Demon Jr. happening tonight! We then are told we are getting a treat with 4 new Lucha’s entering the ring and we are introduced to the Lucha’s!

Aerostar comes out first hyped as a high flyer Vampiro comments on how his stardom was a big influence in mexico.

Argenis is next out and Vampiro puts over his versatility as far as high flying and the ability to keep it on the ground. He also puts him over as being the hungriest in wanting a victory! Stryker adds his excitement to see the versatility at play here when watching Argenis.

Angelico enters next, there is emphasis of him being from South Africa and that Lucha is so world renowned that even in other countries Lucha’s keep Spanish names. He is referred to as the opening of Pandora ’s Box and that he should be taken seriously despite looking like a bmx biker!

Cage is the last one to enter, This guy is Jacked, commentary starts right in on how he Is the opposite of everything Lucha, you can tell right away he is going to be booked as a monster. I am not sure if the comments about his mold and build were a dig at other promotions or simply a way to build some sort of heat!

First match: Aerostar vs Argenis Vs Angelico Vs Cage in a elimination four way match!
Match starts off Right away showing Cage’s dominance; where one by one he takes out the wrestlers and stands tall in the middle of the ring! He turns to the other 3 wrestlers who then take him out of the picture with a chain of moves and then focusing on each other!

After the big guy is out of the way the high flyers go back in forth doing some pretty sick spots, my favorite comes from Argenis who catches Aerostar springing backward off the ropes guiding him into a German Suplex!

The rest of the match continues with the high flyers showing off their technical and high flying aspects with the sudden interruptions of strength and power by Cage! He is clearly showing his dominance here and the story that is being told is his power and raw strength is something to take seriously! He shows his cocky and arrogance as commentary says by catching Aarestar in mid air, holding him in the vertical suplex position then floating into the jack hammer!

The holy shit moment of the match comes when all 3 of the high flyers get high spots taking out all the other opponents on the outside of the ring! The crowd loved it and defiantly got people on their feet!

The finish was booked pretty solid, it was clear from the start Cage was going to be a monster and they delivered! He pinned each other participant following a devastating power move, not only did he win he pinned all the other wrestlers! After the match he closed with stating he was a machine!

Winner Cage via pin fall on each wrestler!!

Following the commercials we see Chavo in the ring sitting in a chair holding the mic! He asks Blue Demon to come out so he can apologies! Blue Demon comes out slowly obviously on guard and hesitant! Once he sits down Chavo’s disposition seems to change and he starts taunting Blue Demon by apologizing he is over rated and saying he should have removed his mask proofing he is a fraud, all the while pulling brace knuckles out of his pants! Blue Demon sees this and following an exchange catches Chavo with a chair shot! After chants of one more time he hits another blow to Chavo’s back standing tall in the ring seemingly putting an end to this once and for all!
After the segment a vignette is shown hyping the next match!
We return with the camera focused on the ring announcer as she introduces King Cuerno, they talk about how he’s the hunter but lately he has been the hunted. As he stares into the eyes of the dead buck of his headdress commentary focuses on his predator mentality when conveying his style!
Next Drago emerges; I actually really like his entrance and his gear. Commentary seems to be foreshadowing a longer feud between these guys, saying you can view their matches as rounds not knowing who will come out on top in the long run!
Match 2 King Cuerno VS Drago
This match begins with a technical exchange allowing commentary to comment on how well these 2 know each other! Each wrestler gets a big momentum change cutting off their opponent and also connecting on a high spot diving out of the ring! King Cuerno is on top at the moment grabs and sets up a table foreshadowing its use in the future! Vampiro comments on how this is usually a bad sign for someone in Lucha Underground!
Drago makes a comeback following an exchange forcing King Cuerno to desperately grab a chair, after striking it on the ring post to show its steal he attempts to attack Drago, who dodges and catches him with a supper kick! Drago seeing his opponent lay out on the table he runs to the top of the arena and does a suicide splash on to King Cuerno and through the table. The crowd is chanting as the ref looks on and counting, once he gets to 10 the bell rings for a double count out! The only thing I didn’t like about this match is after the end the medics came out without any sense of urgency. The segment closes with Stryker hyping the main event.
Winner Draw via double count out!
The show is back with a well done vignette for Fenix, I have to say wow. I really liked this promo hyping the match. They used all the history of the bird phoenix to build the wrestler and how the bird cannot be destroyed! I have to admit my favorite part was “From the ashes of defeat the bird is always reborn, if you try and destroy Fenix his rebirth will be your end”.
Main event time, Fenix comes out and we are reminded that this is the first time the title is being defended! Also that Fenix has defeated Prince Puma before giving this a good story and hype for the coming match!
Prince Puma then comes out, he is the first Lucha champ and it is said he is the future of Lucha Underground! They do say his linking with Konan is unfavorable but for the first time he is here to defend the coveted title!
A handshake starts off this match, followed by a very even technical exchange giving no man the upper hand. Back and forth these 2 go, respect and timing and creating space are brought up as reasons by commentary as this things goes on! After some high flying spots to the outside of the ring eventually the match slows pace resulting in it being contained in the ring.

My favorite exchange starts with back and forth slaps and forearms, Fenix actually catches puma with a stiff spinning back smack and chest bumps him. This leads into him trying to spring off the ropes but gets caught by puma who over head suplexes and chains it into a vertical suplex!

The rest of the match has a lot of close 3 counts and powerful spots. They continue to build Fenix as someone who can rise from the ashes and be victorious, I enjoyed how they made this seem as though the title could really be in jeopardy!

The finish ends off with Fenix running from one turnbuckle to the other along the ropes but catching a super kick by Puma who was perched on the adjacent turnbuckle! This leads into Puma’s 450 swanton or something of that effect pinning Fenix for the 3.
Winner Prince Puma retaining the title!

It is hyped right away that this was his first and the first successful title defense in Lucha Underground History! Prince Puma is in the ring standing tall with the belt!

Out of Nowhere Cage slides in the ring from behind striking Puma in the back of the head! After an Alabama slam and a couple power bombs he drops the champ with a discus clothesline. He stands over Puma as he stares into the camera, commentary puts him over as staking his claim to being the new number one contender as the show goes off the air!

My thoughts!

I really enjoyed this show; it is clear from the beginning they went into this show with a clear idea of getting Cage to look dominant! He is not the normal Lucha style so he does seem as though he is a legitimate threat to the title! I thought he was built well due to pinning all other opponents in the first match! I really look forward to them continuing to build this and for the payoff! I would rate this show about 8 out of 10; readers let me know what you think. Did you enjoy the show, did you enjoy the booking of cage!

Mr. Jones has been a life long nerd, he started collecting vinyl, action figures, and comic books at a very young age. As he grew older his passions evolved into Djing, producing music, writing and traveling. He caught the wrestling bug in 95 after going to the first WCW episode on TNT, at the mall of America, and has been hooked ever since. A new collecting habit of wrestling tapes was born that night where he learned the history of wrestling as well as taping the present weeks during the Monday night wars. Through that process he became a lifer and the habit is not easily broken, and shows today in his mid 20's. His passion for art shows through his music and his obsession with comic books, which has also transformed into a hefty collection. You can expect good articles and reviews on, wrestling, comics, games and figures and anything else Mr. Jones may decide to tackle! Hope you enjoy! Thanks!!
