AJ Lee has been absent from WWE action briefly after losing the Divas championship to Nikki Bella at TLC(and Stairs) in December and was advertised to return to the live event circuit shortly before this year’s Royal Rumble after taking time off to heal up from hampering injuries, although these appearances never materialized as she was pulled from the events.

As one of the more popular female performers of the PG era it would be difficult to imagine that the WWE would not be having her be a part of Wrestlemania 31, the promotion’s largest spectacle of 2015. With a pinch more than a month remaining before this event, AJ has yet to return to either televised or live events. While the question remains if she will be appearing at all, the larger inquiry would be what her involvement would be in Santa Clara.

The obvious choice would be AJ challenging once again for the Divas Championship currently held by the same woman that defeated her for it, Nikki Bella. With Nikki having the supermodel look, the glamorous identity and symbolizing everything AJ finds wrong with the Divas division the story writes itself. AJ, the antithesis of Nikki Bella, returning to restore prestige to the title by recapturing it is an intriguing angle for the potential match.

On the other hand, AJ holds not only the distinction of being the longest reigning Divas Champion in history but also having held it a more times than anyone else. At Wrestlemania 30 she even successfully defended it in the Vickie Guerrero Invitational against 13 other Divas, nearly the entire female roster. AJ has at this point in her career has transcended the title belt and is ready for something more “Brobdingnagian”.

A match that many in the WWE Universe have been clamoring about for years stemming from select encounters on RAW after Payback 2013 and more recently on the first RAW in September 2014 has been AJ vs Stephanie McMahon. The two have displayed paramount chemistry with each other, and with Stephanie elucidating that she can still compete in a marquee match at Summerslam 2014 against Brie Bella, a bout between the two is a definite possibility.

Even as of press time, there is even an ongoing exchange between Mrs McMahon-Helmsley and AJ on twitter originating from a tweet in which Steph thanked Patty Arquette for standing up for women’s rights. This led AJ to challenge the WWE Chief Brand Officer for the treatment of female performers in the company citing the disparity in wages and television time compared to their male counterparts despite record selling merchandise and them being in the highest rated segments on programming at times. Stephanie responded in the corporate fashion, thanking AJ for her comments with this conversation on the heels of the trending #givedivasachance campaign.

Stephanie McMahon vs AJ has the potential to be a serious draw, confront an issue on the minds of the fanbase and create a Wrestlemania moment for both performers. In addition it would free up a spot for another female to challenge for the Divas title on the grandest exchange of them all.
