The news isn’t getting any better for Jon Jones.

Earlier this morning, it was reported that Albuquerque Police were looking to speak to the UFC’s light heavyweight champion with regard to his apparent involvement in a hit-and-run accident that happened yesterday.

MMAFighting.com is now reporting that a man identified as Jon Jones, fled the scene of a car accident on foot and that marijuana was found in rental car involved in the collision.

According to MMAFighting.com:

“Witnesses said the driver who started the accident exited his vehicle, then went back to grab a “large handful of cash.” The man was described as African American and wearing a white shirt with dark pants. He allegedly ran north from the accident scene and hopped a fence. Officers were unable to find him.

Inside the man’s vehicle, a silver Buick SUV, police found a marijuana pipe with marijuana in it and “paperwork belonging to a Jonathan Jones, which had MMA information on it from the state of Nevada,” the report stated. There was also Enterprise rental car paperwork inside the vehicle. Several phone calls placed to Jones at the time were unsuccessful.”

Jones was identified by an off-duty police office and said that he saw the fighter run up a dirt hill. The driver whose car was initially hit is a pregnant woman in her 20s and it is being reported that she was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light and was apparently being driven by Jones.

Albuquerque PD spokesman Tanner Tixier confirmed with MMAFighting.com on Monday morning that police still have not heard from Jones or anyone on his team. No charges have been brought against Jones currently.

“We are currently following up with the victim to check on her health status,” Tixier said. … “We need to confirm the severity of the injuries before we file charges.”
