I’m a huge fan of the Wally West The Flash era of comics. He is my Flash despite being old enough to remember the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths. He was one of the only heroes in comics that aged with its readers. He left school, got a job, had the up’s and down’s that go with that, got married, had kids and more. However, that Wally West was gone after Flashpoint and the current DC Comics New 52 / DC You Wally West is a bi-racial teen speedster; I like that new speedster, but I was glad to learn that DC Comics’ Convergence would include a Speed Force two-shot of Wally West and family.
Convergence: Speed Force #2 flows from the debut issue’s cliffhanger.
Spoilers & capsule review for Speed Force #2 follow.
Convergence: Speed Force #1 ended with Flashpoint’s Wonder Woman confronting Wally West, his kids, and Fastback from Captain Carrot’s classic Zoo Crew (full spoilers here).
She seems to best him battle; WW puts her magic lasso on Wally West that compels him to tell the truth. He reveals what’s happened to his wife Linda Park, but also tells Wonder Woman that he pities here and his kids help distract her to allow The Flash to get the upperhand.
With Flashpoint’s Wonder Woman foiled, her amazons retreat, Fastback returns to the Zoo Crew and Wally West and his kids await the outcome of Convergence #8 (full spoilers here).
I wish that we’d have seen some complete family moments in this mini-mini-series, but with all iterations of DC Comics heroes and villains alive in the multiverse post-Convergence, we may get that soon?
