Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. DC is kicking off a few new series this month and Marvel’s Secret Wars continues with a bunch of tie-ins. A few issue #2’s out this week from some major titles. If you’re trying to find a new place to start on some series, I’d try tracking down the #1’s to those, and I’ve also included a list of new TPBs I’d recommend checking out this week…

Fight Club 2 #2Fight Club 2 2Written by Chuck Palahniuk; Art by Cameron Stewart; Covers by David Mack & Francesco Francavilla (shown)

  • After the shocking realizations of issue #1, this is sure to continue to be a blast! Everyone but Sebastian wants to live like it’s the past, and they won’t let him get in their way.

Mulan Revelations #1 – Written by Marc Andeyko; Art and Cover by Micah Kaneshiro

  • Descendant of the famed Chinese warrior, a new Mulan must fight for the fate of the world!

Material #2 – Written by Ales Kot; Art by Will Tempest; Cover by Tom Muller

  • #1 was a very interesting start to what should be a compelling series. I really liked Kot’s involvement with the reader, leaving side-notes and recommendations at the bottom of the pages. Very very cool, I’m definitely looking forward to more.

Sons of The Devil #2 – Written by Brian Buccellato; Art by Toni Infante; Covers by Toni Infante, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Rod Reis

  • Fast-paced and to-the-point, issue #1 was a great start for this dark and alluring series. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here.

If you’re having a dry week trying to find new stories, check out these TPBs soon…

Postal Vol. 1 TPB – Written by Bryan Hill & Matt Hawkins; Art by Isaac Goodhart

DC’s NEW #1’s & ARCS!

Convergence is over, as are Futures End and Batman: Eternal, meaning every title should be taking place in present day; no more time jumps to confuse some of us readers! Most DC titles this month are either new series or new arcs which makes this a great time to pick up any long-running series you’ve been curious about or get in on the ground floor of a new series. Here’s a list of some of the highly-anticipated new books and arcs coming out this week…

Green Lantern: The Lost Army #1JL3001 1Written by Cullen Bunn; Art and Regular Cover Jesus Saiz; Variant Cover by Ben Oliver

  • Focusing on key members of the Green Lantern Corps, John Stewart, Kilowog, and others are lost in an unfamiliar place with limited power and no memory of getting there.

Justice League 3001 #1 – Written by Keith Giffen; Art and Regular Cover by Howard Porter (shown at right); Variant Cover Scott Kolins

  • Continuing from Justice League 3000, the team must continue on theor journey and remain the world’s greatest heroes. But with new challengers popping up, will they all make it? I enjoyed JL3000, and since this is a direct continuation, I’ll definitely be checking it out.

We Are…Robin #1 – Story and Regular Cover by Lee Bermejo; Art by Rob Haynes & Khary Randolph; Variant Cover by TBD

  • With Damian Wayne globe-hopping with Goliath (see Robin: Son of Batman) other Robins have stepped up to defend their city. But this isn’t the return of any Robins we’ve seen before, this is a whole new team! Should be an interesting focus on the younger side of crime fighting.

Batgirl #41Gotham By Midnight 6Story and Cover by Cameron Stewart; Art by Babs Tarr

  • The Batgirl of Burnside has made an impression, but what about the new Batman in town? That coupled with other mounting problems, Barbara’s in for a heckuva fight.

Deathstroke #7 – Story, Regular Cover, and Art by Tony S. Daniel; Joker Variant Cover by Lee Weeks

  • Slade Wilson vs. an Olympian God!

Gotham by Midnight #6 – Written by Ray Fawkes; Art by Juan Ferreyra; Regular Cover by Bill Sienkiewicz, Joker Variant Cover by John Van Fleet

  • A new arc and a new artist start here! Previous reading may be required to avoid spoilers, but otherwise this should be a fine place to start for new readers.

Superman #41 – Written by Gene Luen Yang; Art and Regular Cover by John Romita Jr. & Klaus Janson; Joker Variant Cover by Karl Kerschl

  • “Truth” continues as new writer Gene Luen Yang takes over!

Aquaman #41 – Written by Cullen Bunn; Art and Regular Cover by Trevor McCarthy; Joker Variant Cover by Walter Simonson

The Flash #41 – Written by Robert Venditti; Art and Regular Cover by Brett Booth; Joker Variant Cover by Eddy Barrows

Grayson #9 – Written by Tim Seeley; Art and Regular Cover by Mikel Janin; Joker Variant Cover by Dave Johnson

Teen Titans #9 – Written by Will Pfeifer; Art by Kenneth Rocafort; Regular Cover by Bengal, Joker Variant Cover by Scott McDaniel
