SDCC 2015: Dark Horse Expands Whedonverse With Joss Whedon’s Twist! A Victorian Female Batman? Movie Or TV Show To Follow?

News, Top Story

At San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) International 2015, writer-director of Marvel’s The Avengers film, Jos Whedon's The Twistcreator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly / Serenity, has announced another comic series from, his publisher of choice for his Whedonverse properties, Dark Horse.

EW reports that Joss Whedon’s Twist is set to debut.

“It’s a Victorian thriller about a meek chambermaid who is fed to a dark horror — but instead of dying, she returns, with knowledge, power, and rage she can neither deny nor control,” [Joss] Whedon told EW in a statement via Dark Horse. Expect a strong steampunk aesthetic, some dark knight thematics, and Whedon’s typically imaginative, provocative approach to political, social, and feminist concerns.

I’m intrigued by Joss’ Whedon’s Twist and am pleased it features another strong female as its lead; a strong female who does not rely on T&A on its overs as so many others do in the comics industry.

I also am a fan of the Victorian Period in comics and Joss Whedon, so win-win.

However, I do wonder if Whedon’s is developing Twist due to his love of comics or to create intellectual property to exploit in other media as comics properties are hot right now. Probably both.
