I will pretty much sample anything Peter Tomasi is writing and I will certainly try any book Doug Manhke is drawing. And, when they’re together on the same book I have yet to stop reading it past the sample stage. Superman / Woman is no different and Superman / Wonder Woman #19 continues their amazing collaboration in DC Comics’ new DC You era.
The free preview of the issue set the stage for the confrontation between a weakened and exposed Superman / Clark Kent and a newly armored Wonder with… the Suicide Squad!
Spoilers and review follow for Superman / Wonder Woman #19.
I have to say that Deadshot got the shining and holy sh*t moments in this issue. He unloads his seemingly infinite ammunition on a weakened Superman.
So, how strong and invulnerable is the former Man of Steel?
Ouch. That hurts. After being tended to by Wonder Woman who literally was removing Deadshot’s bullets from Superman’s torso, Superman heads off to confront who he thinks is behind the Suicide Squad’s attack.
Amanda Waller, the head of the Suicide Squad, is talking to that shadowed person both lamenting the lost of the visuals from the earlier fight between Superman, Wonder Woman and the Suicide Squad.
Yet, someone else still has the feed and starts the next phase of their plan vs. Superman / Wonder Woman; is that Maxwell Lord? Is he stepping up after his New 52 debut in the pages of OMAC?
Hmmm. So, who did Superman go after? Well…
…. United States President Barack Obama seems to have some explaining to do!
Overall a great written and drawn issue. I’m a HUGE fan of the Suicide Squad so their addition in this arc made sense and leads to some interesting consequences for the U.S. President. The testing of Superman’s power levels with Deadshot doing the controlled study 😉 was pretty neat. A very satisfying issue.
