Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. Marvel’s Secret Wars continues with a bunch of tie-ins, and I’ve included a list of TPBs I recommend. A lot of number 1’s this week, so let’s take a look…

Phonogram: The Immaterial Girl #1Phonogram 1 – Written by Kieron Gillen; Art and Cover by Jamie McKelvie & Matt Wilson

  • Returning to the original series that made them household names, the creative team of Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, & Matt Wilson bring us the long-awaited third volume of the critically acclaimed music/magic based phenomenon! Where music once ruled, now video is taking over; how will Emily Aster survive? According to Gillen, this is the perfect jump-on point for new readers, but if you’re a fan of this team like I am, I highly recommend checking out the previous volumes as well, Vol. 1 Rue Britannia and Vol.2 The Singles Club. Also, pick up The Wicked + The Divine.

DC Comics Bombshells #1DC Bombshells 1 – Written by Marguerite Bennett; Art by Marguerite Sauvage; Regular Cover by Ant Lucia, Variant Cover by Emanuela Lupacchino

  • One of DC’s most creative and popular variant-month themes comes to its own series! From the writer of Sleepy Hollow, A-Force, and Earth 2: World’s End, and the artist of 1602 Witch Hunter Angela and Thor Annual #1 comes this stylish and imaginative Elseworld tale. This title is already out digitally and has been receiving major buzz, so get yours this week! (If nothing else, that Black Canary Bombshell variant is finally printed!)

Justice League: Gods And Monsters #1Justice League Gods And Monsters 1 – Written by J.M. DeMatteis & Bruce Timm; Art by Tony Silas; Regular Cover by Darick Robertson, Variant Cover by Darwyn Cooke

  • So far we’ve been treated to tie-ins featuring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, but now the official lead-up to the movie is here. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I have been enjoying the books. See below for a list of other great Elseworld stories from DC.

Sleepy Hollow: Providence #1 – Written by Eric Carrasco; Art by Victor Santos; Regular Cover by Joe Quinones, Variant Covers by Rob Guillory & Faith Erin Hicks

  • The second limited series based on the hit TV show. With a new creative team, this series may differ a bit from the previous, but should still be solid.

If you’re looking for more #1’s to get in on, check out the following out this week:
