Welcome to What To Look Forward To!
Captain America: White #1 – Written by Jeph Loeb; Art and Regular Cover by Tim Sale
- It would be a bit of an understatement if I said the comic world has been waiting for this one for a while. What has to be one of the longest gaps between issues in recent history (7 years!) is finally continuing on. I’ve been a big fan of Loeb/Sale since I read Batman: The Long Halloween (the first graphic I read when I started collecting in 2008 and still one of my favorite Batman stories to this day) and when issue #0 came out in September of ‘08, I picked it up right off the shelf. Understandably, Loeb has been a bit busy running Marvel Television (you know, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil and the other Netflix shows) since 2010, but 7 years is long enough! I’m also excited to have Tim Sale back on a regular book, since I’m pretty sure most of the work he’s done lately has been covers. All beautiful, mind you, but I miss his full-page spreads! If you haven’t read issue #0, it will be included with #1 so no need to go back-issue hunting. This is one you won’t want to miss, True Believers.
The Black Beetle: Necrologue #1 – Story, Art, and Cover by Francesco Francavilla
- Speaking of long waits, the continuation of Francesco Francavilla’s hit 2012 Black Beetle series is here! The original was great, and Francavilla hasn’t disappointed since (Afterlife with Archie, plus countless beautiful covers) so this is one you’ll to get. I don’t believe previous reading will be necessary for this issue, but why not check it out anyway? Black Beetle: No Way Out is available now. (This issue has suddenly disappeared from several sources, so it may be delayed.)
Tokyo Ghost #1 – Written by Rick Remender; Art & Cover by Sean Gordon Murphy, Additional Art by Matt Hollingsworth
- One of the most anticipated new series from Image is finally here! If you follow Sean Gordon Murphy on Twitter, you will have seen several works-in-progress posted, so you know this is going to be a beautiful book. Plus, along with Rick Remender and Matt Hollingsworth, this is a dream team of story-telling. Better get in on it now before they’re all gone.
Secret Identities #7 – Written by Jay Faerber & Brian Joines; Art by
- I don’t believe I’ve mentioned this one before, but I was surprised how much I liked this series. I picked it up for Jay Faerber, since his Copperhead was another favorite of mine last year, and was not disappointed. A new look at a team superheroes living with their alter-egos, this is one you’ll want to check out. However, this is not a great jumping on point, as it is the series finale! TPB coming October 7th.
Other issues to look forward to: D4VE2 #1, Island #3, Sex Criminals #12, The Fade Out #9
