I remain a huge fan of artist Mike Zeck. His 1984 Secret Wars #1 cover for Marvel Comics gets a lot of homage love. Even if you are passing comic fan, you have seen this cover.
Interestingly, Mike Zeck has his own alternate cover on his website with a few additional Marvel characters. Not sure if this ever saw print on an actual comic or collection.

Artist-painter Alex Ross based his 2008 Secret Wars hard cover art on that original Mike Zeck cover.
2015’s Secret Wars #1 had another Alex Ross take on that cover now with multiverse equivalents of the original heroes.
Most recently, 2015’s Secret Wars #6 had a variant homage to Mike Zeck’s cover with Marvel Comics “MC2” universe characters. Awesome!
Will we see one or two more takes for 2015’s Secret Wars #7 and Secret Wars #8? Maybe even for some of the All-New All-Different Marvel Comics’ new #1’s? I sure hope so.
All this follows other Marvel homages to their own cover like with Ultimate Comics’ Ultimates…
….and Deadpool. Always a Deadpool cover out there. :)
