The Lana and Rusev engagement was known to WWE officials before news broke publicly.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting WWE used the information to turn it into a storyline, and most likely fed the information to TMZ, who was credited with breaking the report. WWE usually only mentions the source if they are on good terms and want the news out there.
Still according to the observer, even though WWE was aware of the engagement reports, Vince McMahon was not happy about it because it broke the “rules” of playing the role at all times and maintaining character. Many believe that current storyline plans were rushed ahead and changed due to the engagement news making headlines.
