Backstage News On Paige/Charlotte Angle, Who’s Idea Was It, WWE Issues Statement

News

Lots of speculation this past week’s after Monday Night RAW ended in a controversial fashion with Paige making a derogatory comment about the passing of Charlotte’s real life younger brother Reid. At some point it seemed WWE was trying to give the impression that the whole thing was Charlotte’s idea but that got quickly shot down by several wrestling personalities and observers, including Ric Flair. PWInsider is now reporting that Charlotte was presented with the idea and was allowed to give her feedback and input in to the segment in terms of the verbiage that would be used. Word is that the whole segment was conceived as a way to give Charlotte sympathy from the fans.

It’s being said that the origin of the idea was something that Charlotte had mentioned at one point to WWE creative in regards to her entire career being a tribute to her brother Reid.

It has been noted by several sources that the idea was discussed quite a bit throughout the day and was something that some senior officials were against. Ultimately it was Vince McMahon who made the call to go ahead with it.

Last night WWE issued the following statement in regards to the angle:

“Subject matter this personal is only approved as a result of the strong advocacy of the talent themselves. Notwithstanding that, WWE is ultimately responsible for what airs in its programming.”

I've been following wrestling for almost 30 years now, and the metal scene for even longer. And let's just say that all that head-banging has left me with some weird ideas that i will share with you from time to time. Aren't you glad?
