Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. I’ve also included a list of Trade Paperbacks and Hard Cover Editions if you’re looking for some extra stories. Many collaborative issues this week, so without further ado let’s dive in…

New This Week:

Hellboy Winter 2016Hellboy Winter Special 2016 – An all-star cast of creators tell tales of Hellboy in winter, including Tim Sale, Chris Roberson, Chelsea Cain, Michael Avon Oeming, and Mignola himself. Sale’s story also serves as a prelude to the upcoming Hellboy and The B.P.R.D.: 1953 series, so this is one you’ll want to get for future reading.

Vertigo Quarterly SFX #4 – Another great group of creators tell one-off stories in this continuation of Vertigo’s popular quarterly series. This being the last issue, it’s sure to go out with a BANG! (see what I did there? Pick up the issue and you will!) See previous quarterly special CMYK for more collaborative greatness.

Southern Bastards #13 – The big game we’ve been waiting for!

Cry Havoc 01Island #6 – A big week for collaborative books! Island continues to be a pleasure for the mind and the eyes, more than worth the $7.99.

Suicide Squad Most Wanted: Deadshot and Katara #1 – This over-sized-issued mini-series focuses on two members of the Squad between their own stories!

Cry Havoc #1 – Simon Spurrier, Ryan Kelly, and a team of colorists, each with their own section of story, tell a tale of what’s been described as “Jarhead meets Pan’s Labyrinth”. Not a mix you’d think would work, but this series already has folks talking so you may not want to miss this one.

A few other issues to look forward to:

Deadly Class #18, East of West #24, Justice League of America #7, ODY-C #9, Old Man Logan #1, Outcast #15, Prophet: Earth War #1, Saga #33, Superman #48

Collected Editions:

Batman Ed Brubaker TPBBatman by Ed Brubaker Vol. 1 TP – Fresh out of No Man’s Land, the city of Gotham needed a revitalization and they found it with Brubaker, along with several others, paving the way for stories to come like Jeph Loeb & Jim Lee’s Hush and Brian Azzarello & Ed Risso’s Broken City.

Batman: The Jiro Kuwata Batmanga Vol. 3 – I appreciate that DC is digging through the archives to find older stories to share with new fans. I hope this pattern continues (psst, DC, more 70’s to early 80’s please!)

Curb Stomp TPB

Invader Zim Vol. 1 TPB – Just as much fun as the show, mostly because it’s being run by the series creators!

Groot HC

What If: Infinity TPB

Supergirl Vol. 1 The Girl of Steel TPB – A year after Jeph Loeb reintroduced Kara Zor-El to DC continuity in Superman/Batman, she got her own series starting here! While I highly recommend checking out her Supes/Bats reintroduction, this should be a fine jumping-on point for new readers.
