“2 Decades. 10 Films. 1 Saga.”
Before you go thinking this is Disney’s timetable for the future of the Star Wars franchise, pump those brakes. This is for another franchise, only down to earth, where speedsters replace spacecrafts and a scruffy nerfherder is King Dude Bro, Vin Diesel. When Furious 7 was racing its way to over a billion-and-a-half dollars worldwide, Diesel let it be known that it signaled the end of one chapter and the start of a new trilogy. It was just talk but as a cash cow for studio Universal you just knew that the franchise would continue.
Now the news becomes official courtesy of Vin Diesel’s Instagram account, where he confirms the release date of Fast 8 (April 14, 2017) and announces that FF9 will arrive April 19, 2019 with FF10 on April 2, 2021.
Fresh off the success of the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray takes over for James Wan with Fast 8. The full cast is to include Diesel, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris, with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham expected to return. If the first teaser poster (revealed last month) is any indication the Big Apple will be one of the destination locations in this action-adventure.
