A Penny For Your Thoughts Wrestlemania Countdown Day 1; Mania Day Predictions

Columns, Top Story

So it’s Mania day, and by the time you read this I’ll be cooking for my impending Mania party guests. So I’m going to close up my countdown by giving my predictions. Normally I’d just do a quick run-down in the roundtable, but since I’ve spent the last 10 days talking about various facets of this year’s festivities, I want to go into a bit more detail about my predictions. So let’s finish this.

Well for starters we all know that this is going to be a trainwreck. A glorious, magnificent, embarassing trainwreck. The live audience is all but guaranteed to utterly massively collectively shit on this match. Vince stubbornly refused to listen to his audience and now it’s going to bite him in the ass and bite him hard. It’s pretty much a no brainer that Vince is going to stay the course and give the belt back to Roman tonight. And the crowd may actually riot. All I know is I’ll be sitting here smiling with a bowl of popcorn watching Vince get bitchslapped by reality.

As I covered on Sunday, I genuinely believe that, for the good of both the Undertaker’s health and the company overall, Shane McMahon NEEDS to go over here. That said, despite the rumours of the brand split returning, I just don’t think Vince has the balls to do what’s actually best for business here. But then Vince hasn’t known what’s actually best for business in a very long time. While I still wholeheartedly believe that Shane SHOULD win, I’m hesitant to believe he’ll be allowed to.

This is one of my two picks for show-stealing Match Of The Night. Lesnar and Ambrose will be utter chaos. It’s pretty much a no brainer that Ambrose won’t win, but he’ll put on the performance of a lifetime to make Lesnar earn his win. Ambrose won’t be the pushover that Lesnar expects, and we may very well see at least one of them bleed the hard way.

Oh goddess this is really happening? The League of Midcarders is actually getting airtime on Mania? Well, I know were one of my piss breaks is going to be. I’m sorry but even New Day’s fun promos aren’t going to be able to make this match watchable for me.

My other choice for potential match of the night, while I like many others wish Sasha could’ve been given Charlotte one on one, I LIKE Becky Lynch and can forgive the three way. I fully expect the Bayley/Asuka match from NXT Texas Takeover to have been utterly epic, (I wrote all these ahead of time), these three are going to have a seriously high bar to match, and I have no doubt they’ll try their asses off to meet it. Look for Sasha to win the bling belt.

Honestly? I just don’t care. The Dudleyz Reunion toiur hasn’t really captured my attention, and while I like the Usos I’m kinda burnt out on them. So take your pick, I just can’t be assed.

I really don’t know what to say about this one. The only thing I even remember from last year’s was Sandow finally turning on Miz. Your guess is as good as mine here.

As I said yesterday, I’m annoyed we’re not getting Zayn/Owens and a separate MITB ladder match, but looking at the participants here, and knowing it’s going to be a fun spotfest at least, I’m going to pick Sami Zayn to win, because Owens is ready to move up to the main event, and no one else in the match is a serious contender. No not even Zigglypuff. Might also be interesting to see who fills in for Miz as I hear from Metalhead Doug, (Sorry Pat, couldn’t resist), that Miz is on the injured list now.

I’m personally not super enthralled with this match. We’ve already seen it 3 times. That plus Styles’ recent homophobia fracas means I’m not exactly pumped for it. Jericho isn’t as good as he used to be, (and the Flair level moobs he sports aren’t helping), and AJ should be in the IC title mix. Styles wins and Jericho goes back to touring.

Kallisto has already scored a clean win over Ryback, and everyone loves an underdog story. So I’m calling Kallisto here to retain.

I didn’t even know this was happening. Unless it’s stacked with a few of my favourite NXT girls, I could not possibly care less. I guess I pick whichever team Paige is on.

Well that’s that. I hope you enjoyed my Wrestlemania countdown series, and I hope you enjoy Wrestlemania itself later today. We now return you to whichever life you’re living.
