The Magnificent Seven is a remake that seems to have been in development forever. At one point it was going to be headlined by Tom Cruise and take its western setting and have it be set in modern day. But it seems the dynamic duo of director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) and star Denzel Washington have kept its western roots and added in six-shooting Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), a grizzled Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), I Saw the Devil‘s Byung-Hun Lee, and Ethan Hawke and Martin Sensmier sporting the cool character names of Goodnight Robicheaux and Red Harvest.
Based on Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece Seven Samurai, this is the second time The Magnificent Seven will hit the silver screen. The original (1960) from John Sturges (The Great Escape) had the badass cast of Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Eli Wallach, Robert Vaughn and Yul Brynner.
This first trailer is a nice appetizer to the action that’s to come when Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven hits theaters on September 23, 2016.
