10 Thoughts on… TNA Impact on Pop TV 04.26.2016 (Tyrus vs. Drew Galloway, EC3 vs. Mike Bennett, Decay vs. Beer Money, Gail Kim vs. Rosemary)

10 Thoughts, Reviews, Top Story

TNA has the last show in the last tapings batch, with final TNA appearances for Bobby Roode and Eric Young. Here we go!

1. Tyrus vs. Drew Galloway for the World Title kicks off the show, strange placement for the title match. These are two guys that TNA has used better than WWE and both could go back and contribute in these better, more serious roles. Very solid big man heel vs babyface match where Drew picked up the win.

2. Maria and Gail Kim had an in-ring promo segment, ending in Maria booking Gail against Rosemary. They ended up having a pretty long match that was probably the best Knockouts match on Impact in 2016.

3. In what is certainly my new favorite part of Impact, Eli Drake has a new segment called Fact of Life. He has a podium with a red button that he is using to call out DUMMIES. First he calls out Jeff Hardy for doing a dive off the balcony – presses the button – DUMMY. Then a bobbing head with Eli saying “DUMMY YEAH”. Amazing. The horrendous Bro-Mans come out and they have a dummy showdown.

4. Beer Money vs Abyss & Crazzy Steve in what will likely be the final Beer Money match in TNA history. A weapons brawl that ended up with Decay winning the titles. Huge night for Decay as a faction on Impact.

5. Both EC3 and Mike Bennett cut fiery backstage promos about their match later in the night. Particularly Bennett’s was strong – he shines when not around Maria.

6. Eric Young vs. Bram in another hardcore match. Strange to have back to back weapons match. This is EY’s TNA swan song, and it was fine. Finish saw Bram hit a DDT from the apron to the floor through the table. The DDT is called “The Brighter Side of Suffering” and Bram is YOUR new King of the Mountain champion.

7. Drew cut a backstage promo, putting over the match from earlier. I thought this was a great touch – all wrestling companies could make more of what they do with followup interviews like this.

8. Jeff Hardy limped to the ring after several backstage limping segments. He cut a promo until Reby Sky came out with Rockstar Spud. Hardy put down Spud.

9. The main event was EC3 vs. Mike Bennett. EC3 locked Bennett into the Million Dollar Dream, but Bennett fell backwards and pinned EC3. This is EC3’s first pinfall loss in TNA.

10. Overall a pretty solid show with more weapons matches than I like, but otherwise strong.

Next week begins a new era of TNA with much fewer legacy wrestlers and even more new faces. They keep going!
