SmackDown Shakeup: Show Going Live, New Night, New Roster

News, Top Story

Changes are coming for WWE. Starting July 19, 2016, the weekly telecast of “SmackDown!” will move from the USA Network’s Thursday night line-up to Tuesday night where it will air live. This breaking news was made by Stephanie and Shane McMahon in a video address posted by WWE.com.

SmackDown goes live on its new night, beginning July 19.
Shane and Stephanie McMahon announce that SmackDown and the WWE Superstars of the New Era will go live on Tuesday nights, beginning July 19 on the USA Network.

In an official statement, “the second longest-running weekly episodic program in television history, “SmackDown,” will move from Thursday to Tuesday nights and air LIVE each and every week — for the first time ever — at 8/7 C on USA Network, the exclusive cable home to WWE’s marquee properties.”

Futhermore, the change in programming will further push a New Era of talent as both “Raw” and “SmackDown” will have their own individual rosters and rivalries following a Superstar draft that will happen in the imminent future.

“WWE’s flagship programs will both leverage the incredible depth of our talent roster, distinct storylines and the unpredictable nature of live TV,” WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon said. “This move will undoubtedly build more excitement and deepen engagement with our fans around the world.”

What would you like to see happen when “SmackDown” begins airing live starting July 19th? Ideal roster? Should there be a single WWE World Champion and Tag Team champs? What show will end up with the Intercontinental title or U.S. title?
