Cody Rhodes To EVOLVE

News

It was back in late May when Cody Rhodes asked to be released from his WWE contract. And who can blame him. The son of Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, Cody’s career has been a series of miscues and missed opportunities. Whether he was part of the Legacy faction with Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase Jr. or one half of Rhodes Scholars (the other being Damien Sandow who was laid off by WWE in 2016), Cody never seem to excel beyond the point of that of Intercontinental Champion. Then WWE creative totally made over the once “Dashing” Cody Rhodes to be Stardust in 2014, this after he and his brother Dustin (wrestling as the persona Goldust) had a series of stellar tag team matches with future WWE World Heavyweight Champions Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns (The Shield). But the Stardust gimmick was the nail in the coffin for the uber-talented Cody Rhodes who would find himself on the losing side against the likes of R-Truth, Ryback and TV’s Green Arrow, Stephen Amell. He became a low-card wrestler as a character that was more a parody of his older brother.

Rhodes’ no-compete clause with WWE expires on August 19th. Already set to face Kurt Angle at Northeast Wrestling’s “Wresting Under the Stars” on August 27th, Cody Rhodes will have his first post-WWE match for EVOLVE in Joppa, Maryland on August 19, this according to EVOLVE’s June 3rd newsletter.

The big news is that Cody Rhodes is coming to EVOLVE! Cody Rhodes will wrestle in singles competition at EVOLVE 66 on August 19th in Joppa, MD at the MCW Arena. This will be Cody’s first post-WWE match so it will be a very special night in the Baltimore area! In addition, Cody will be available for pictures and autographs. Rhodes has asked to wrestle a top talent. We are working out the details now and will have more info next week. Get your tickets now while great ringside seats remain! This event will be broadcast at www.WWNLive.com on live iPPV

This news is interesting if only for the fact that WWE began a partnership with EVOLVE back in 2015, which allows the sports entertainment giant to scout talent to sign to NXT – hence Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa appearing in NXT and being part of the upcoming Cruiserweight Classic (a prelude of which will occur at EVOLVE 63: WWE Cruiserweight Classic Flashpoint).
