In an interview with Work of Wrestling, Mick Foley spoke about his love of the Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte match from RAW two weeks ago. Here are highlights:

On if he’s pleased with the progression of women’s wrestling: “I am. There were definitely some bumps in the road. I think we can expect some more. But I think the victory for Sasha was really monumental, like a seismic shift. Hopefully, we will be seeing it as a statement.”

On the Facebook post he wrote about Banks’ title win: “I’m working on an article right now that should be up in a few days. I’m trying to explain why her character (Sasha) resonates so deeply with me. So many great characters that make it on a large level, people see parts of themselves in that person. Great success comes when people have a legitimate reason to root because they feel like in a sense they are rooting for themselves. The victory in a way was a victory for the underdogs and people have been told they were not good enough, cool enough, strong enough.”

On Charlotte’s role in the match: “Charlotte’s really found herself as this champion and has this ability/potential now to grow without the championship title. Some of her expressions in that title match were incredible.”

On how good the match was: “It was epic story telling (Charlotte vs Sasha RAW). I think the battle for that championship will push them both and test the boundaries of the characters. It could be a rivalry for the ages. Foley also stated regarding the rivalry, “I think the growth of Charlotte as the champion and the confidence that came with that, we could be looking at a really epic rivalry. I know Sasha and Charlotte had an amazing rivalry in NXT but the rolls are reversed now. I made sure I reached out to Charlotte after the match and told her how proud I was with her growth every week as the champion. I touched on how now is the time to grow even more. She (Charlotte) needs to express that frustration. She looked really scary.”

On what happened backstage after the win: “There was this great moment where as soon as Sasha won, Big E was in the dressing room and said “Let’s go”. The 3 New Day members literally ran out of the dressing room. It was important for people backstage to share that moment with her (Sasha). It was bigger than anything I had ever seen. It was really powerful to see, which is why I’ve been working on this article for 4 days. I want to get it right. I want people to be moved by it the way I was.”
