  • SUPERGIRL REBIRTH #1 – Starting right with my most anticipated book for the week. This series seems to be bringing some elements of the TV series into Supergirl, which is a good thing. DC Rebirth has had a lot of real good books so far, and I suspect this will be another one.
  • NIGHTWING #3 – Was a bit hesitant on seeing this book rebranded from Grayson back to Nightwing, but it’s been excellent. Raptor has been a great character, and I’m real curious to find out what his agenda is. “Better Than Batman” has been one of my favorite arcs coming out of DC Rebirth.
  • BATGIRL AND THE BIRDS OF PREY #1 – I wasn’t expecting to pick this book up, but I really enjoyed the REBIRTH special, so I am going to give it a fair shot.
  • CIVIL WAR II – There are a lot of Civil War II books coming out this week. It’s a real mixed book. Looking forward to Civil War II Amazing Spider-Man #3, Captain America Sam Wilson #12 and Ultimates #10. Power Man And Iron Fist #7 and Spider-Woman #10 are two of my favorite series, though I don’t see any real need for them to be Civil War II crossovers. No interest at all in Mockingbird #6, but I have been picking up all the Civil War II for mini reviews, so I will continue that trend, even if my bank account hates me for it.
  • STAR TREK #60 – Star Trek Beyond was awesome, so I am kind of bummed out that they are ending this ongoing series in favor of mini-series moving forward. The current arc with the Star Trek crew crossing over with The Original Series crew is a great way to end the series, but it’s one of my favorite comics so this being the last issue really bums me out.
  • SPAWN KILLS EVERYONE #1 – I have no idea why this book needs to exist. It seems so 90’s. But, Spawn is consistently a good read, so I will pick this one up out of curiosity. Why not?
  • MAXX MAXXIMIZED #34 – Maxx was one of my favorite series in my teen years, and it’s been great to have them rereleased on a regular basis. This is the second to last issue, so I have to say goodbye once again. I really hope that someday Sam Keith revisits this series and characters, but that would probably never happen.

John Babos

9 books this week.

  • Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #1 – Intrigued by a new Oracle and how Huntress acclimates to the team. Not sure if I’ll be go beyond issue #1, but we’ll see. Likely arc-based reading for me vs. ongoing.
  • Green Arrow #5 – Enjoying this more classic take on the character. Really enjoying the antagonists, Shado, Emiko and Black Canary being around.
  • Green Lanterns #5 – This book feels like it has a purpose beyond diversity. Not keen on Red Lanterns as villains, but the human subplots, particularly around Simon Baz, are real world relevant.
  • Nightwing #3 – Not sure if I’m in for long haul, but I’m enjoying current Court of Owls and Raptor premise for series. Not sure if this will play out over a few arcs or if this is continuing premise for book. Intrigued nonetheless.
  • Star Trek #60 – The end of an era for the Kelvin timeline Trek movie team. Loving that the last 2 issues are a x-over of sorts with The Original Series (TOS) crew.
  • Suicide Squad #1 -Yes, please. Fave DC series and concept since John O introduced them in the 1980’s Legends mini-series. This run could be a high water mark akin to John Ostrander, Luke McDonnell and Karl Kesel first year on the original series.
  • Supergirl Rebirth #1 – I don’t watch the TV show, but this appears to take elements from it. Will sample this issue.
  • Superman #5 – In lieu of the Super Sons series hitting stands being pushed now to 2017, I’m getting my Jon Kent / Superboy fix here.
  • Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #10 – Gilad Anni-Padda kick ass immortal. Yes, please.

Joe Smith

  • Backstagers #1 – Tynion. Boom. I have a rough idea about what the book will be about. I’ll give anything new from Boom! an issue or two to start with.
  • Black Hammer #2 – I’m interested by the premise and will be picking up both issues. Lemire being able to do his own thing is a good thing.
  • Aquaman #5 – I have no idea what’s going on with this title, it’s in my file at the shop so I’ll check out the first few issues to see if I’ll continue with the series.
  • Batman #5 – Same thing here, when I removed Daredevil from my file I thought I’d throw this one in there. I’ll be doing some binge reading to catch up.
  • Delete #4 – I’ll be doing another multi-issue purchase here. I want to see what Palmiotti and Gray do in this offering from Devil’s Due/1First Comics.
  • Green Lanterns #5 – I’m intrigued at using different Green Lanterns for a title. I’m behind on this one as well, but will pick up the other four issues at the same time. I’m glad that Atrocitus is the antagonist for this arc because I wasn’t really digging the whole Punishers of the universe thing they had going on before.
  • Justice League #3 – I’ll be checking this title out for the first time too. The old series was in my file so I think this one will carry over from that title. This one is on a short leash though, I didn’t care for the recent Hitch Justice League title (shelf read that one).
  • Suicide Squad #1 – I’ll generally give a new creative team a shot to see what they’re going to be doing with the team. Sometimes I’ll stick with it and sometimes I won’t…I’ll have a pretty good idea whether or not I’ll continue reading this book after the first issue.
  • Supergirl Rebirth #1 – I’ll be giving this title a shot. I really like Lupacchino’s work and think it’ll mesh well with this character.

Matt Graham

  • Supergirl Rebirth – My biggest book of the week. Supergirl has always been more interesting than any member of the Super-family to me, but every time she gets off the ground it seems her book vanishes. I like that this title will pull from the television show and shoot for a Buffy The Vampire Slayer vibe. Should work, and it fits the quirk that Marvel has nailed with Spider-Gwen and Gwenpool. I feel that’s a good market to shoot for.
  • Gwenpool #5 – Gwenpool is always a highlight after catching me off guard.
  • Spider-Woman #10 – Jess can’t escape Civil War, but it makes sense since Carol is her friend and a key player in this event. Thankfully Hopeless weaves it in rather than derailing.
  • Wolverine #11 -Another Civil War tie-in. Looks like Laura, Logan, and Gabby are going to kick the crap out of Steve. Since Steve is working for this precog BS, I will enjoy that.
  • Black Widow #6 – Another unique book from Marvel that seems determined to break the Marvel Manner. This series is a visual treat that capitalizes on the comic book medium like few do.
  • Suicide Squad #1 – My excitement is dampened by the back up feature approach, only because I’m also annoyed with Wonder Woman’s alternating format. Wonder Woman felt like two titles crammed into one due to lack of confidence in the brand, this feels like art issues.
  • Harley Quinn #2 – This title is one of the few Rebirth titles that continues oblivious to the Rebirth. Not a bad thing.
  • Civil War X-Men #3 – To be honest, I picked up #2 and didn’t read it.
