DVD Reviews: Shimmer and Shine: Zahramay & Paw Patrol: Sports Day

DVD Reviews, Reviews

Kids like puppies and genies. But they love puppies that can drive vehicles and genies that are cute and don’t trick you into bad wishes. Thus Josie really enjoyed the arrival of Paw Patrol: Sports Day and Shimmer and Shine: Welcome to Zahramay Falls.

Paw Patrol: Sports Day are six episodes focused on athletic events instead of the normal rescue missions involving the service puppies. They even get a bit of a regular villain action as they have to deal with a mayor who believes a pack of cats can be better than fun puppies. There’s a reason why they have the Puppy Bowl against the Super Bowl and not the Kitten Jai alai. The episodes on this collection include “Pups Save a Basketball Game,” “Pup-Fu!,” “Pups Save the Mayor’s Race,” “Pups Save a Snowboard Competition,” “Pups Save the Soccer Game” and “Air Pups.”

Shimmer and Shine: Welcome to Zahramay Falls spends more time with Leah and her two little genies that promise her three wishes a day. The two do their best to make the wishes come true. But as newbies, they can’t quite get them right. It adds to the comedy and teaches kids that even magic has a learning curve. The episodes on this collection include “Welcome to Zahramay Falls,” “First Wish,” and “Happy Wishaversary.”

Here’s Josie’s reviews of the DVDs:

The video is 1.78:1 anamorphic. The transfer brings out the colorful nature of the puppies and genies. The audio is 5.1 Dolby Digital. The sound levels are fine for both shows. There are dubs in French and Spanish. The episodes are Closed Captioned.
