DVD Reviews: The Legend of Korra & TMNT Earth’s Last Stand

DVD Reviews, Reviews, Top Story

There’s two things Josie enjoys are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Legend of Korra. While Korra wrapped up, the Turtles keep creating new episodes. Both animated series feature variations of martial arts except one is more human and only has an emotional shell. Both are have DVD releases with The Legend of Korra: The Complete Series and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Earth’s Last Stand.

The Legend of Korra: The Complete Series is one of the finest shows produced by Nickelodeon’s animation department. It captures the finest elements of an Anime series as Korra comes to the big city in order to be the Avatar that can master control of air, water. fire and earth. However she finds herself being constantly distracted from her studies if by a desire to compete in a battle sport and use her powers to stop crime. Over the course of four seasons, Korra goes through many emotional transformations. The series plays off the history of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but looks better on the screen. My daughter quickly became a fan of Korra. Here’s her take on the release:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Earth’s Last Stand features the middle seven episodes of season four that’s currently showing on Nickelodeon. “The Ever-Burning Fire” has the Turtles doing their best to find the final parts of the Black Hole generator. They are still in eating pizza in space. This is all a last ditch effort to save the Earth from it’s horrible fate. Strange to think that humanity is at the mercy of four pizza loving reptiles that survived exposure to toxic waste. Here’s Josie’s review of the collection:

The videos is 1.78:1 anamorphic. The transfers look fine for both shows. The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround to bring the fights to your ears. Both shows are Closed Captioned.

Bonus features for The Legend of Korra include numerous audio commentaries with cast and crew and short promos created for the Nickelodeon runs.

Bonus feature for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Earth’s Last Stand is Turtle packback tag.
