Detroit has been a scary place for decades. The citizens who could took sanctuary in the suburbs as the once gleaming buildings of the Motor City decayed. The city mostly made national headlines as Murder City. In 1987 Hollywood propsed a solution to it’s underworld issues with the arrival of RoboCop. Director Paul Verhoeven brought to the screen the concept of a police officer (Peter Weller) merged into a robot that had no fear while laying down law and order. The film opened up a conversation about how far can we go to police neighborhoods. Not only was RoboCop a box office hit, but it walked away with the Oscar for Best Sound Editing. Naturally the film inspired a sequel and a third film to complete the trilogy. Now RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3 are coming out on Blu-ray as Collector’s Editions. RoboCop’s latest arsenal of high-tech weaponry only somewhat evens the battlefield, as this lone superhero takes on the entire army of corporate militia in an all-out war to control Detroit! This last film in the trilogy is directed by cult filmmaker Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps).
