DC Comics Rebirth & Superman Reborn Aftermath Spoilers: Action Comics #977 Reveals New Rebirth’d Superman Origin & New Superman Revenge Squad Forms

Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth and Superman Reborn Aftermath Spoilers for Action Comics #977 follows.

Action Comics #977 opens with Superman arriving at the Fortress of Solitude asking the super computer to retell his history.

It begins with his parents Jor-el and Lara on a diverse Krypton that seemingly incorporates all previous iterations culture-wise.

Krypton is dying and the council won’t believe Jor-el. They’re son, Kal-el, is born on Kryton and the parents want to spare him Krypton’s fate.

Jor-el has built a rocket and as that is revealed to readers, Krypton begins to disintegrate.

They place their son on the rocket made for one…

…it flys away with Kal-el as Krypton explodes.

The rocket ships lands in a field outside of Smalleville, Kansas, where Kal-el is found by…

…Martha and Jonathan Kent who decide to keep the boy and raise him as their own.

We get a glimpse of Clark Kent, a.k.a. Kal-el’s, childhood; seems Pete Ross was his best friend before Lana Lang.

We also get a look at Superman and Clark Kent’s diverse present at the Daily Planet.

With that, we’re caught up on the new yet classic Superman Reborn Aftermath history in the DC Rebirth era.

At the same time, in the present, a mysterious benefactor is pulling together a new all-powerful Superman Revenge Squad. He/it starts with Metallo and then…

…Blanque.

We also have a tease of someone or something trapped in the Fortress of Solitude. The new Eradicator maybe? Someone else?

However, based on solicitations for upcoming issues, we know who will be on the new Superman Revenge Squad…

…General Zod, Cyborg Superman, Eradicator, Mongul, Metallo and Blanque.

Is the benefactor one of them or someone net new? Some have speculated that he/it is Doctor Manhattan of the Watchmen. That seems highly unlikely. Based on the binary type speak, I imagine its either Brainiac or Cyborg Superman.

An interesting arc ahead that will include Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad!
