DC Comics Rebirth & The Button Spoilers & Review: Batman #21 Kicks Off Flashpoint & The Watchmen Return Plus Legion Of Super-Heroes AND Justice Society / JSA Rebirth?

Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth and The Button Spoilers and Review follows for Batman #21.

Batman #21, the much anticipated return of the Watchmen and the Flashpoint Batman, opens in Arkham Asylum with a stranded and seemingly mentally unstable Saturn Girl of the Legion of Super-heroes…

…babbling incoherently about the Legion and Superman.

So, it addition to the Justice Society / JSA Rebirth during the Button we get the march to the Legion of the Super-Heroes Rebirth too.

The four pages of the free teasers DC Comics released also fit nicely into the story. The first teaser showed that the Watchmen button, from the Comedian, is activated somehow by the Psycho Pirate mask; the mask may be tied to the Crisis on Infinite Earth as not sure why else it would have reacted the way it did with the Watchmen Button.

The second teaser showed Batman explaining to the Flash that the Button when it came into contact with the Psycho Pirate’s masks ripped a while in the Speed Force and allowed him to meet his father, Thomas Wayne Batman, from the Flashpoint timeline. The Flash says he’ll be there in a minute and then we get a countdown that continues the whole issue to the Flash’s arrival.

The third teaser showed the Reverse Flash…

…who remembers the Flashpoint timeline, and knows he should be dead…

…a battle ensues where the Reverse Flash gets the upper-hand… violently.

The fourth and final teaser showed the Reverse Flash finding the letter Thomas Wayne Batman from the Flashpoint timeline left for his son Bruce Wayne Batman in “our” main timeline; the Reverse Flash rips up that letter.

The Reverse Flash gloats that Batman can’t touch him to fight him, but Batman points out he can ground him and impales Eobard Thawne’s foot…

…the Reverse Flash still says Batman can’t between. Batman acknowledges that, but says he only needs to wait 11 seconds… until Barry Allen The Flash’s arrival.

However, the Flash is late and the Reverse Flash knocks out Batman.

The last three pages were leaked yesterday.

The Reverse Flash sees the Button and is transported somewhere in a blue Doctor Manthattan of the Watchmen type flash…

…he returns, but begins to disintegrate as…

…the Flash arrives to an unconscious Batman and a seemingly ravaged Reverse Flash.

So…

An interesting and entertaining issue written by Tom King with pencils by Jason Fabok. Clearly, this issue set up much of what follows, but it was a fun issue. 9 out of 10.
