DC Comics Rebirth Spoilers and Review for Batman in Detective Comics #962 follows.

We learned from last issue that Jean Paul Valley aka Azrael is tormented by programming that makes him unstable.

We got a look at that programming last issue and this issue; a little child torments him yet…

…Team Batman have uploaded Batman AI into Jean Paul Valley via his new Azrael – Batman armor…

…to give him a way to battling and overcoming the Order of St. Dumas’ programming.

Ascalon has attacked Team Batman in the Belfry and, finally, Jean Paul Valley in full Azrael – Batman aka Azbat armor will be the difference maker!

We get a scene reminiscent of Bane breaking Batman’s back from back in the day, that caused Azrael to become Batman in the old continuity; i 2017 it’s Ascalon in 2017 trying to break Azrael’s back. Interestingly, will Nomoz couldn’t get it all out, it seems Ascalon may be Azrael’s brother?

A dying Nomoz also reveals it was Azrael’s dad that uploaded the program into him causing Azrael to go into a blind rage…

…impaling Ascalon before Team Batman can help the Batman AI assert itself in Azrael.

Batman and Zatanna join the fray ad use a magic doodad on Ascalon who now sees the light, literally, making Azrael’s child avatar tormentor corporeal and revealing to Batman…

…that Tim Drake aka Red Robin is alive!

The book ends with Batman and Azrael at Nomoz’s grave site talking about the future. Azrael will not don the Azbat armor again, but has asked Batwing to create him an amalgam of it and his Azrael’s armor. We also learn that he still feels he has the Batman AI in his head while…
