DC Comics Rebirth & Dark Nights Metal Spoilers & Review: Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps #27 w/ A HOLY SHIT New Gods Moment & Nth Metal!

Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth and Dark Nights Metal Spoilers and Review for Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps #27 follows.

The book opens with giant celestial beings hunting Orion, a New God of the Fourth World…

…with the Green Lantern Corps in the way.

Despite the GLC knocking it over the protect innocents…

…it doesn’t consider the Green Lantern Corps a threat, but an annoyance…

…hindering its ability to eliminate Orion.

Orion realizes that the only way to get this seemingly unstoppable being off its path is to impale himself and cleaving his heart from his chest! Can a god die? The celestial being sure think so and moves on to its next New Gods / Fourth World target.

An empathetic or telepathic Green Lantern Corps member named Two-Lobe probes Orion’s mind as the GLC look to revive and heal Orion and learn that these celestial beings are weapons called Golems of the Old World who are armored in Nth Metal – the substance at the heart of the Dark Nights: Metal event – and their mission to kill all of the progeny of the Old Gods.

The GLC is looking to warn the New Gods of this new celestial threat, but Orion’s mind won’t give up the leader of the “good” New Gods Highfather’s location, but the New God Lightray is the key to his whereabouts.

The GLC believe they are prepared to…

…track down the fastest of the New Gods!

So…

An entertaining issue with string writing by Robert Venditti – who knows a lot about the connection between the GLC and New Gods from his New 52 writings – and rendered by penciller Rafa Sandoval whose pemcils seem grainy and inconsistent for me. The book had some dynamic moments, like Orion’s self impaling, as well as illuminating moments like the secret history of these Golems and their connection to Dark Nights: Metal. 7.5 out of 10.
