  • Hack Slash Vs Vampirella #1 – Love Vampirella. Love Hack Slash. I am leery without Tim Seeley writing it, but he did hand pick writer Shawn Aldrige (The Dark and Bloody) to do it. I like artist Rapha Lobosco’s linework and inks, and the previews look like he’s really pulling from the horror comics of old. I’ll give it a spin.
  • Paper Girls #16 – It’s back for the fall season! Just in time for Stranger Things hype, the comic series that predates the period sci-fi horror teen drama picks up after a summer break. After starting in 1988 and warping to the present day then a surreal far future, paper girl Tiffany finds herself in the year 2000, where Y2K was more of a disaster than we all prepped for.
  • Venomverse #5 – Venomverse has been a timely, fun ride, from Edge to now. It wasn’t perfect, and outside of Edge, none of the Venoms got quite the boost that Spider-Verse did to grace us with Gwen-Stacy, Web Warriors, and a new Spider-Verse statue line by Mark Brooks, but I liked it, which is more than I can say for Legacy or the past few Marvel summer events, so I’ll take it.
  • Extremity #7
  • Astonishing X-Men #4
  • Hawkeye #11
  • X-Men Gold #13

There are no new titles this week, which is kind of interesting. Marvel’s Legacy renumbered titles start to show up with Iron Fist, but as it’s done by the usual creative team, I don’t see that as a big deal at all. Iron Fist has been a decent read, but it’s not Ed Brisson’s best comic (that would be The Violent).

Paper Girls is back from hiatus, which is always a good thing. I like how Matt made the connection between it and Stranger Things – I guess the 80s are big again.

I expect my favourite books this week will be the new Stray Bullets: Sunshine and Roses (because it’s always so good), The Walking Dead (I already don’t like this new Princess character – she talks as much as Negan), and Deathstroke (because Priest).

I am actually weeks behind on my comic reading, sadly. Some interesting books coming out this week that I want to talk about.

  • ARCHIES #1 – I have really enjoyed the Archie relaunch line, so I will definitely check this one out. Though I have to say, it doesn’t quite make up for the loss of JUGHEAD and JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS, two of my favorite titles.
  • BATMAN #32 – This issue has already been spoiled all over the place. What the hell, DC? You guys are acting like Marvel lately… I am still really curious to know how it plays out, but my excitement is a bit diminished since I seem to already know the big twists for the issue. Hoping there are still some surprises here.
  • HARLEY AND IVY MEETS BETTY AND VERONICA #1 – Are all my comics this week Batman or Archie related? This sounds like one crazy crossover, and I can’t wait!
  • PUNISHER PLATOON #1 – Garth Ennis on a Punisher “Max” book again? Definitely count me in!! This book is set during Vietnam, so it can’t quite be in continuity, but I still want to see what Ennis has in store for readers.
  • TICK #1 – A new TICK series!! I was telling my wife that I am amazed that we’ve gotten for different versions of THE TICK (comic, cartoon, 2 tv series) all of which are so different, but I love them all. I think this is probably the first time I am buying TICK as it comes out…assuming it comes out digitally on Wednesday.
  • SHADOWMAN RAE SREMMURD #1 – Good news is MORE SHADOWMAN! The odd news is that he comes back featured in a team up with some band I have never heard of. Back in the say, SHADOWMAN teamed up with Aerosmith, so this isn’t that unusual, but I can’t imagine Rae Sremmurd is going to move the needle on sales…
  • SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE #1 – I actually am not sure if I am buying this one, but I used to love Marvel’s supernatural line back in the say, so I am definitely considering it. It is a relatively light week this week, but I still am playing catch up, so adding more books is probably a bad idea.
  • VENOMVERSE #5 – This is one of the few books I have been keeping up with! I never expected to enjoy this series as much as I have, but it is definitely one of the most fun comics out there.

  • Bane Conquest #6 (Of 12)
  • Batman #32

  • Green Lanterns #32
  • Justice League #30

  • Postal #23
