D.C. Follies turns ’80s politics into puppets in November

Disc Announcements, News

Sid and Marty Krofft had created a demented generation of kids with their puppet universe in the late ’60s and early ’70s with H.R. Pufnstuf, Lidsville and Land of the Lost. In the late ’80s, they returned to these older kids with a series that had fun with the more grown up subject of politics with D.C. Follies. The great Fred Willard (This Is Spinal Tap) was the bartender who had ringmaster the puppet versions of the newsmakers at the end of the Reagan era. Now both seasons will be available on D.C. Follies: The Complete Series. Here’s the press release from Shout! Factory:

THE OUTRAGEOUS POLITICAL COMEDY SERIES D.C. FOLLIES
GETS THE BOX SET TREATMENT FROM SHOUT! FACTORY

D.C. FOLLIES: THE COMPLETE SERIES
COMES TO DVD NOVEMBER 14, 2017

Los Angeles, CA – Imagine you’re in the hottest bar in D.C., with the biggest names in politics and entertainment, and Fred Willard is your bartender. It’s no dream, it’s D.C. Follies: The Complete Series. All 44 episodes of the outrageous 1980s comedy will be available on DVD from Shout! Factory on November 14.

Brought to you by those masters of trippy TV, Sid & Marty Krofft (H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost), D.C. Follies stars the one and only Fred Willard (Best in Show, Fernwood 2 Night) as the bartender in the hottest joint our nation’s capital has ever seen … and where the clientele is made up of puppet caricatures of the biggest names in show biz and affairs of state. From the world stage to the puppet stage, Fred and his most-irregular regulars sock it to the culture of the day with a satiric style like none other. Pull up a barstool for a front row seat as Reagan tries to wipe out the national debt with a TV home shopping show, Dolly Parton gives makeup tips to Barbara Bush, Margaret Thatcher confers with Madonna to find a new image, and Nixon’s Presidential Library… is a bookmobile.

An array of timely, non-puppet guest stars are along for the ride, such as Betty White, Martin Mull, Bob Uecker, Mike Tyson, Whoopi Goldberg, Leslie Nielsen, “Weird Al” Yankovic, and many more.

D.C. Follies: The Complete Series is available for pre-order now from Shoutfactory.com.
