  • Eternal Empire #5 – This book is really good.
  • Falcon #1 – I don’t know the creators behind this book, so I haven’t added it to my pull-file list, but I’m hoping for a strong start to this new title. I really liked what Nick Spencer did with Sam Wilson, and wish he was still Captain America. I’m very ready to support this title, but not blindly.
  • Mister Miracle #3 – I don’t even need to say anything further about this. The first two issues were wonderful, and expectations for this one are high.
  • Royal City #6 – Jeff Lemire’s brilliant family drama title returns from hiatus, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m really digging this book.
  • The Woods #36 – I’ve loved this series, by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas. Now it’s coming to its conclusion, and I feel sad, because I’m going to miss these kids. Between this ending and Letter 44 last month, I’m really beginning to miss long-form small press series. There needs to be more titles with this kind of vision and originality.

  • FALCON #1 – I know it wasn’t for everyone, but I really liked Nick Spencer’s run on CAPTAIN AMERICA, especially the ending in GENERATIONS. I thought it was a terrific way to show Sam Wilson’s growth as a character over the years. I am a little disappointed to see him go back to being Falcon, but I am willing to give this one a chance to win me over.
  • RUNAWAYS #2 – The 1st issues did violate my two big rules about first issues (accessible to new readers and the whole needs to be introduced and preferably together by end of first issue), but I still enjoyed this quite a bit. Not sure why they didn’t just run with the Legacy numbering on this…it was a far better 71st issue than a 1st issue.
  • STAR WARS BOLDLY GO #12 – Last issue, Captain Kirk was replaced by a shapeshifter. I am kind of hoping they keep him that way. SWERVE!
  • WONDER WOMAN #32 – Darkseid and Grail are killing gods to try and bring back Darkseid’s full powers. Meanwhile, we are supposed to be getting an appearance by Wonder Woman’s long lost twin brother soon. James Robinson produced some great work the last few years at Marvel, and the first issue of his WONDER WOMAN arc definitely caught my eye.
  • ROCKET #6 – Al Ewing is the perfect fit for this insane book. Each issue is full of twists and turns. This is OCEAN’S ELEVEN as a comic book…but with aliens! I never know where this book is going next, but it’s one hell of a ride.
  • DETECTIVE COMICS #966 – LONELY PLACE OF LIVING features the return of Tim Drake and some answers on the “what’s been going on behind the scenes of the DC Universe.” A big rumor is that Superboy will be returning in this arc…hopefully, it will be a Pre-Flashpoint Superboy. I would be very happy to get a return of the dynamic from Peter David’s YOUNG JUSTICE. We just need Impulse back too. DC needs a lot more fun.
  • ALTERS #7 – Glad this book is finally back. I like that Aftershock spreads their books out, only releasing series when the creators have stories to tell, but it can get frustrating when it’s a series you really enjoy like I do ALTERS.
