DC Comics Rebirth & Action Comics #991 Spoilers & Review: The Oz Effect Part 4 Finale Has Superman Vs. Jor-El / Mr. Oz As The Watchmen ‘s Doctor Manhattan Strikes Pre Doomsday Clock!

Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth and Action Comics #991 Spoilers and Review follow for The Oz Effect Part 4 Finale.

The book even has a Justice League movie variant cover featuring Wonder Woman and Batman; the film hits North America on November 17, 2017.

Action Comics #991 opens with Superman summarizing the previous 4 parts of the Oz Effect and what Mr. Oz, actually his father Jor-El, has been up to.

Mr. Oz insists he’s not to blame for the coming of Doctor Manhattan of the Watchmen nor the evil that has perpetrated by humans even the ones he set on a path to destroy Metropolis. Mr. Oz gave those humans a choice between good and evil and evil won.

We then pivot to Mr. Oz’s home outside space and time which is set up as a haven from what is to come which seems to set up an anticipated escape during Doomsday Clock.

Mr. Oz / Jor-El and Superman / Kal-El don’t see eye-to-eye literally as Oz has Kryptonite vision!

Superman destroys Mr. Oz’s omnipresent staff; turns out he needed to relieve the pain for a piece of Kryptonite being lodged in his skull after Krypton exploded.

The book ends with Doctor Manhattan of the Watchmen presumably capturing Mr. Oz.

Doomsday Clock #1 hits stands on November 22, 2017.

So…

An entertaining issue with solid art. No much new developments beyond Mr. Oz’s powers and pain. A lot of set-up for Doomsday Clock. 7 out of 10.
