DC Comics Rebirth & Dark Nights Metal Spoilers & Review: Batman Lost #1 Reveals A Retconned New History For Bruce Wayne & Hawkman?

Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth and Dark Nights Metal Spoilers and Review for Batman Lost #1 follow.

As of Dark Nights Metal #3 both Batman and Superman are “lost” in the Dark Multiverse. Batman Lost #1 tells the story of what is going in with Batman / Bruce Wayne in the Dark Multiverse.

It appears Bruce Wayne is now in his 70’s with a granddaughter named Janet.

Janet wants grandpa Bruce to read him a book about Batman. Many of Batman’s adventures or collected in books in the Wayne Library.

It starts off with a story revealing a retcon of Batman’s time traveling through time after Final Crisi where we appeared to die by Darkseid and then reappeared in the series called Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne.

There has now been a War of Birds and Bats throughout time pitting Hawkman vs. Batman. Turns out Hawkman villain Hath-Set was part of the Bat tribe.

We go through more pages of adventures, but Batman / Bruce Wayne realizes is off. This isn’t real.

Batman’s subconcious has been sending him signals in the retelling of this stoiry with the appearance of birds. He knows this story is not real.

Nor is his life as Grandpa Bruce Wayne. He was right and granddaughter Janet is really Dark Nights Metal villain Barbatos.

Barbatos claims to have molded Bruce Wayne and Batman throughout the years even…

…inspiring Bruce ti become Batman because Barbatos was the bat that broke through Wayne Manor window and inspired the creation of the Batman persona.

It is interesting that in the War of Birds and Bats that the Bats were the villains as Barbatos talks about Bruce Wayne making Batman a hero a force for good implying the opposite is the true nature of the Bat.

Despite finding out the truth, Barbatos overpowers Bruce Wayne / Batman and the Grandpa Bruce fantasy reemerges as a frail looking Batman remains trapped in the Dark Multiverse.

Next week we have The Batman Who Laughs #1.

So…

A fun, thought provoking and at times headache inducing story with a eclectic mix of artists. The purpose of the story, I hope, was to reveal the secret history of Bruce Wayne and Batman with also the War of Birds and Bats connection to Hawkman. If this was all a lie than the one-shot should not have been created. Lots of questions leading out of this and into Hawkman Found #1 to come. 6 out of 10.
