Welcome to What To Look Forward To!

Here is a (very) quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. A few new series coming out, as well as a healthy stack of new TPBs and HCs to check out. And so, without further ado, let’s dive in…

New This Week:

Mystik U #1 – Join Zatanna, Enchantress, Faust, and many more on their life-changing journey to Mystik U, the school to teach them how to control their magic! I keep hearing people attempting Harry Potter comparison’s, so imagine Hogwarts but for DC characters.

John Wick #1 – The world has been rocked by two John Wick movies already, and with a third coming in the next year or so, it’s time we got to the origin of the one Russian mobsters fearfully call The Bogeyman!

Batman: Creature of The Night #1 – A slightly altered take on Bruce Wayne’s fateful childhood night, Kurt Busiek and John Paul Leon spin a tale reminiscent of Superman: Secret Identity!

Old Man Logan #31 – Enter the Scarlet Samurai!

Labyrinth 2017 Special #1 – Check out these all new stories featuring the Goblin King and other residents of the Labyrinth, celebrating Jim Henson’s classic tale!

DC’s 5th Week Annuals – Many greats to choose from including:

  • Aquaman Annual #1 – Arthur Curry seems to be getting everything he wants, but something isn’t quite right…
  • Batman Annual #2 – The Bat/Cat legacy continues in this flashback to their first date;
  • Green Arrow Annual #1 – The return of Count Vertigo, Shado, Diggle, and the Dark Archer!
  • Justice League of America Annual #1 – Lobo’s reason for placement in the League is revealed, as legendary creator Kelley Jones steps in on art for this special issue.
  • Super Sons Annual #1 – This one is going to the dogs! (I’m really sorry, but I couldn’t resist). Krypto and Titus take the spotlight from Robin and Superboy for a day!

Good jumping-on points & other featured issues:

Sword of Ages #1 – Locke & Key co-creator Gabriel Rodriguez writes and draws this special mini-series for IDW!

Kill or Be Killed #14 – Arc finale! Dylan’s up against the Russian mob as his demon returns.

Darkhawk #51: Legacy – Chris Powell must step up where Darkhawk can’t!

Injustice 2 Annual #1 – Finally, a hard look into what Wonder Woman has been up to lately and where she’ll go from here. (Here being prison on Themyscira, of course.)

New Talent Showcase 2017 #1 – The industries newest creators come to DC to tell all new stories of you favorite characters, like Poison Ivy, Doctor Fate, Red Hood, and Duke Thomas!

Collected Editions

Ghostbuster 101: Everyone Answers The Call TPB – World’s collide as ‘Busters of old and new meet for the first time!

The Ghost Fleet: The Whole Goddamned Thing TPB

Happy! (Deluxe Edition) TPB – Just in time for Syfy’s new TV show, read the series that inspired it all!

Odyssey of The Amazons TPB – It’s Wonder Woman, but without Wonder Woman! Check out some of Themyscira’s bravest warriors as they encounter Vikings, Valkyries, and more other-worldly friends and foes in this 6-issue mini-series.

This section is for readers new to comics, readers looking for new titles, as well as readers on a budget, highlighting several great “jump-on” points each week for about $20.

Mysitk U #1  – $5.99

John Wick #1 – $3.99 – Even if you haven’t seen the movies, especially given that this is an origin story, this should be a good one for all readers.

Super Sons Annual #1 – $4.99 – Any of the annuals this week would be good, but I picked this for it’s fun and ease of jumping in for new readers.

New Talent Showcase 2017 #1 – $7.99 – A fun, self-contained anthology from today’s newest creators!

TOTAL = $22.96

It’s a good week to be a DC reader, several great books for everyone.
