Weekend Box Office Report, January 5-7, 2018

Box Office

Welcome to the first weekend box office for the film year 2018! I’ll be recapping the Top 10 moneymakers over the weekend, and noting their weekend take, total take, plus their change on the list and how many consecutive weeks they’ve been in release. So, for example, last week’s number one would’ve been listed like this: 1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($52.5 million; $517 million) (1, 3). That means the film made $52.5 million over the weekend, with a total of $517 million; it was also number one the previous week, and that it was its third weekend in release. Make sense? Good.

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($36 million, $244.4 million) (2, 3)
2. Insidious: The Last Key ($29.3 million, $29.3 million) (N, 1)
3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($23.6 million, $572.5 million) (1, 4)
4. The Greatest Showman ($13.8 million, $75.9 million) (4, 3)
5. Pitch Perfect 3 ($10.2 million, $86 million) (3, 3)
6. Ferdinand ($7.7 million; $70.5 million) (5, 4)
7. Molly’s Game ($7 million, $14.2 million) (13, 2)
8. Darkest Hour ($6.4 million, $28.4 million) (8, 7)

I grew up and now I write for Inside Pulse. Oh, and one time I saw a blimp!
