Weekend Box Office Report, January 12-14, 2018

Box Office

Welcome to the second weekend box office results for the film year 2018! I’ll be recapping the Top 10 moneymakers over the weekend, and noting their weekend take, total take, plus their change on the list and how many consecutive weeks they’ve been in release. So, for example, movies are listed like this: 1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($52.5 million; $517 million) (1, 3). That means the film made $52.5 million over the weekend, with a total of $517 million; it was also number one the previous week, and that it was its third weekend in release. Make sense? Good.

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($28.1 million; $284.3 million) (1, 4)
2. The Post ($19.3 million; $23.8 million) (15, 4)
3. The Commuter ($13.7 million; $13.7 million) (N, 1)
4. The Greatest Showman ($12.5 million; $95.3 million) (4, 4)
5. Insidious: The Last Key ($12.5 million; $48.7 million) (2, 2)
6. Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($12.1 million; $592.3 million) (3, 5)
7. Paddington 2 ($10.9 million; $10.9 million) (N, 1)
8. Proud Mary ($9.9 million; $9.9 million) (N, 1)
9. Pitch Perfect 3 ($6 million; $95 million) (5, 4)
10. Darkest Hour ($4.5 million; $35.7 million) (8, 8)

Jumanji continued to display impressive legs with another week at number one. Steven Spielberg’s terrific historical drama The Post performed well in its first week of wide release. Other new releases The Commuter, Paddington 2, and Proud Mary all hovered right between $10-15 million.

I grew up and now I write for Inside Pulse. Oh, and one time I saw a blimp!
