The Not-So-Subtle Poster For The First Purge

Okay, even I was amused when I opened up a message containing the first poster for the next installment in Jason Blum’s lucrative Purge series. After all, today President Donald Trump delivers his State of the Union speech, which will be simulcast on all the major networks.

Not wanting to let a good opportunity slip by, Universal Pictures has chosen this day to unveil the first bit of advertising for The First Purge, arriving in theaters this Fourth of July.

See what they did there?

It only makes sense to see how the purge tradition got started. This Independence Day we’ll get to see the rise of America’s twelve hours of annual lawlessness as The First Purge shows how a sociological experiment by the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) goes totally awry. When the trial experiment in an isolated community spreads, the result is what would become an annual event to rid the nation of the weak and marginalized.

Gerard McMurray directs from a screenplay written by James DeMonaco, who has penned all previous entries in the series as well as the remake to John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13. The cast includes Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Oscar winner Marisa Tomei.
