Blu-Ray Review – November Criminals

Reviews, Top Story

It’s interesting to see the Blu-Ray cover for November Criminals, an adaption of the novel “The November Criminals” by Sam Munson, in the light of Ansel Elgort starring in Edgar Wright’s hit Baby Driver. For a young adult novel about a young man (Elgort) looking to solve the murder of his friend with his girlfriend (Chloe Grace Moretz), and a film that’s more of a procedural than an action film, the DVD cover is fairly interesting.

It’s positing the film as a DTV type of driving film, for those who saw Baby Driver and think this is another film like that. Instead it’s a fairy interesting procedural about a boy going down into holes he never thought he’d wind up being in.

Simple premise. Addison (Elgort) is a fairly ordinary kid who doesn’t get the answers he wants when a good friend (Jared Kemp) wind up shot in an apparent gang shooting. That doesn’t jive with him or his girlfriend, Digger (Moretz), as Kevin didn’t seem to be the type. He decides to launch his own investigation into and the further he goes the darker down the rabbit hole he gets.

It’s a really interesting piece because we’re given a classic paint by numbers procedural but given an interesting protagonist through which to see it. It’s reminiscent of The Invisible, which took a similar premise and a much different path. Both were terrific, as well, despite wildly misleading marketing.

Nothing of note.
