These Aren’t Your Daddy’s Darkstars?!
In Dark Nights Metal #6, the event’s finale, we did get a tease as to the Darkstars coming back in a big way.
This followed earlier teases in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #36.
Even in the old continuity the Darkstars worked for the Controllers; a rival to the Guardians of the Galaxy who oversee the Green Lantern Corps.
Well, in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #42, the Darkstars storyline explodes and will culminate with August 2018’s Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #50; writer Robert Vendetti’s last issue of the series.
Anyhow, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #42 opens with a look at incarcerated former Green Lantern Tomar-Tu, the son of legendary GL Tomar-Re, who is imprisoned for murder.
Tomar-Tu remains an advocate for lethal justice.
At the same time, Darkstar One activates against the orders of the Controllers; it even kills a Controller in its escape. Is it now sentient metal as a result of the happenings in Dark Nights Metal #6?
Darkstar One is searching for someone and finds him.
It is Tomar Tu who accepts the offer to align with the Darkstars.
So, the Darkstars armor are equivalent to Green Lantern power batteries.
Tomar Tu is the first Darkstar.
And, the Green Lantern Corps now has him in their sights!
