New Age Of Heroes Continues As DC’s Mythology Expands! Plus The Batman Who Laughs?!

This is one of eight series spinning out of Metal under a new Age of Heroes banner or imprint.

Five series have already been released and reviewed with spoilers:

This week makes that six.

The remaining two series are:

Now onto Immortal Men #1. I think the solicitation blurb is a good place to start.

THE END OF FOREVER” part one! There is a secret history to the DC Universe of heroes who have protected humanity from the shadows since the dawn of time…and who can live forever. Enter the Immortal Men! The team, headed by the Immortal Man, has waged a secret war against the House of Conquest for countless years—but Conquest has dealt a devastating blow. When their base of operations, known as the Campus, is savagely attacked, the Immortal Men must seek out their last hope—an emerging metahuman known as Caden Park! Caden’s emerging powers may be able to ensure the Immortal Men’s survival—but will Conquest get to him first?

Ok, the book opens with Caden Park a young man who dreams, seemingly, of the Immortal Man and Campus. Can he seen the future or the present or is this really a dream?

The Hunt is after the Immortal Men; he appears to be part of the House of Conquest in league with the Immortal Man’s sister…

…Infinite Woman.

And, it seems the Batman Who Laughs has accelerated the civil war among the immortals, the House of Conquest vs. the House of Action.

The House of Action, the “good” Immortal Men presumably, include Ghost Fist, Timber, Stray and Reload.

They too are after Caden Park.

At the same time, Caden Park is in a subway and sees the Immortal Man…

…however it is actually not the Immortal Man, but a trap by the Infinite Woman!

The Immortal Men arrives to save Caden Park!

This last page was also part of the earlier teasers for the issue.

Immortal Men #2 is set for May 9, 2018 release…

…with Immortal Men #3 set to arrive on stands on June 13, 2018.

Looks like the Batman Who Laughs is will stick around.

So…

The mythology being built here is interesting and I’m curious about the original Immortal Men from the top of the gatefold cover, namely Immortal Man, Vandal Savage, Ras’ Al Ghul and Hawkman, plus who they interacted with Barbatos who is positioned with them on the cover. I assume that is Caden Mark in the red mask in the spot on the top of the cover?

Plus, it appears that Timber, the indigenious heroine in the middle of the cover, has come kind of relationship with Apache Chief of the 1970s’ SuperFriends cartoon’s take on the Justice League. So, I remain intrigued.

This is a lot to set up in the first issue; the immortals, the houses, the civil war, Caden Park, etc. So, the story doesn’t feel as fulfilling as a usual story by writer James Tynion IV. However, the art by Jim Lee is naturally breathtaking.

I give this a 7 out of 10, but the series has a lot pf potential with a solid creative team. I have hope.
