“Rogue and Gambit”

Welcome to the column where we talk about the comic book bait and switch of the week.

X Men Gold #30 had long been promoted as the wedding of Kitty Pryde and Colossus. The long time on and off couple was said to be ready to tie the knot and be together for the final time. They promoted it as the wedding of the century. Even Wolverine shows up.

I would also like to say that I  am also happy that Marvel gave us a massive twist and angry for them spoiling it before the issue even hit stands. Marvel in their typical spoilery manner spoiled that those two are not actually gonna get married. But instead, it is the marriage of one of the hottest X couples, Rogue and Gambit. That’s right, these two even more on and off couple actually got married.

What actually happened is that Kitty after talking to Illyana Rasputin, Colossus’s sister, gets cold feet and backs out of the wedding. Elsewhere Gambit realizes how much he actually loves Rogue and proposes to her and she accepts and they get married in a whirlwind ceremony using the wedding festivities planned for Colossus and Kitty Pryde.

David Marquez, the artist for this issue, is spectacular and his art is beautiful and really complements the whole issue and elevates it. I just had to say that.

This leads to the X-Classified title which is Mr. and Mrs. X which I think is a stupid name where we get more background on their wedding and their honeymoon in space. I personally think that this twist is the result of the spectacular Rogue and Gambit series by Kelly Thompson and Pere Perez, but she says she had no clue, but agreed to write the upcoming series.

Mr. and Mrs. X #1 will fill in some blanks from Rogue and Gambit’s wedding.

You get some stuff with Rogue behind the scenes with some of the X-ladies, putting together something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue,” she said. “I felt the fans deserved to see this because we did not get a big build up.”

After that, it’s off to outer space for what passes as an X-Men honeymoon, with unexpected guest appearances by Starjammers, the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, Technet, Deathbird, and even Deadpool.

Because they are the X-Men, the sexy, fun times only last for two seconds before they have to save the world,” Thompson explains.

The synopsis for Mr. and Mrs. X #1:

To the surprise of everyone, the Marvel Universe’s hottest couple has tied the knot! But there’s no time to enjoy wedding bliss when ROGUE and GAMBIT find themselves tasked with protecting a mysterious package that just about everyone in the galaxy is trying to steal. What secrets does this package hold that everyone from the Imperial Guard and the Starjammers to Technet and Deathbird (with an entire Shi’ar Rebellion in tow!) will risk everything for?! Perhaps more importantly, is there anything worse than DEADPOOL crashing your honeymoon?

I am personally disappointed that there wasn’t a wedding between Kitty Pryde and Colossus, but I am very happy that Rogue and Gambit are actually married because that is gonna be fun.
