Pull List Roundtable 8/1/2018 – Adventure Of The Super Sons #1, Infinity Wars #1, Seeds #1 & More

  • Mister Miracle #10 – This series cleaned up at the Eisner’s last week, and it’s pretty easy to see why.
  • Seeds #1 – Ann Nocenti is a long-time favourite writer of mine, going back to her criminally under appreciated run on Daredevil back in the day. Now, she’s pairing with the incredible David Aja to launch a new series; I don’t know what it’s about, but I can’t wait for it.
  • Seven to Eternity #10 – I’ve missed this book, and am happy to see it returning. Jerome Opeña’s art on this book is so good.
  • Black Mask is dropping new issues of two of their better current titles – Survival Fetish and The Wilds. This makes me very happy.
  • I’m also looking forward to reading new issues of Deathstroke, Paper Girls, Stray Bullets, The Walking Dead, Astonishing X-Men, Captain America, and Star Wars.

  • BATMAN #52 – To anyone who dropped BATMAN after issue 50, you are really missing out. Issue 51 features Bruce Wayne on jury duty. I know that sounds like it could be dull, but it was just an incredible comic dealing with the ramifications of everything that went down in issue 50. I am sorry if you are disappointed the story didn’t go exactly how you wanted, but don’t spite yourself by missing this excellent ongoing story.
  • IMMORTAL HULK #4 – Al Ewing has been brilliant on this series. Reframing the Hulk in more of a horror comic setting has been an inspired choice. This is just one of my favorite comics!
  • ADVENTURES OF SUPER SONS #1 – So glad this book didn’t remain “cancelled” for all that long. I love the combination of Damian Wayne and Jonathan Kent. A lot of people were worried that DC was going to get rid of Jonathan, but it seems he will be around for the long haul, and that is a very good thing.
  • INFINITY WARS #1 – I mentioned last week that my biggest problem with INFINITY COUNTDOWN is that it just seemed uncertain what it wanted to be. I grew up on Thanos and the Infinity Gems, so I am picking this book out of curiosity, but so far it’s just been an okay event that hasn’t really won me over.
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA #2 – To be honest, I found Ta-Nehisi Coates’ work on BLACK PANTHER extremely boring, so I had considered just skipping his run on CAPTAIN AMERICA. But I had been reading CAP pretty consistently since Brubaker’s run, so I figured I would give the first issue a try. I was very pleasantly surprised. This is some great CAPTAIN AMERICA here!
  • Dark Ark #9
  • Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #12
  • Green Arrow #43
  • Green Lanterns #52
  • Justice League #5
  • Mister Miracle #10 (Of 12)
  • Bloodstrike #24
  • Spawn #288
  • Ant-Man And The Wasp #4 (Of 5)
  • Ben Reilly The Scarlet Spider #22
  • Cosmic Ghost Rider #2 (Of 5)
  • Star Wars #52
  • Weapon X #21

James Fulton: I keep hearing about how many people dropped Batman after #50 because they were upset about how the wedding played out. Personally, I dropped it because DC put the price up with issue 51. If they still had the digital codes, then I’d continue to support the book; now I’ll just get back issues at sales and shows, or trade-wait. $4 is a lot for a biweekly book, and while I’ve liked what Tom King has done, for the most part, it doesn’t feel essential. Now the only DC books I buy are Deathstroke and Mister Miracle…

Wow, this is a very small week. My wallet will thank me.

  • Adventure of the Super Sons #1 – SO glad the boys are back, even if it’s only for 12 issues (for now). With the last series tying in everything going on in the Bat books, the Supes books, and even the Teen Titans, I was surprised when it was cancelled.
  • Batman #52 – I’m still getting caught up on several DC books but I read Batman #50 last week and loved it, especially the guest artist pages. Here’s looking at 50 more, cheers.
  • The Last Siege #3 – Issue #2 was a solid follow-up to the debut, I’m very excited to see where this 8-issue miniseries goes.
  • Green Arrow #43
  • Justice League #5
  • Mister Miracle #10
  • Paper Girls #23
  • Star Wars #52
