There are two books this week that I’m on the fence about (and the fact that they are both $5 doesn’t help them):

Extermination #1 – I like Ed Brisson’s writing a lot, and am starting to buy into the hype that this book is going to have an impact on the current X-Universe. At the same time, I’m really tired of time travel stories now, so am not sure if I want to be bothered with another series that has that at its core.

Star Wars: Beckett #1 – Had this come out shortly after the Solo movie, I would have grabbed it for sure, but after a couple of months, I don’t know that I care all that much.

What I’m sure I’m getting and excited about this week are new issues of Crude (one of Image’s best books at the moment), Gideon Falls, Manifest Destiny (finally), and Multiple Man. These aren’t the only books I’m buying, but the ones I’m most looking forward to.

Phil Allen : Is this the last issue of Manifest Destiny? I don’t see anymore issues solicited yet.

James Fulton: I doubt that it’s ending. They’ve fallen way behind though, and are maybe going on hiatus? Hopefully a hiatus that ends, not like some other ones…

EDGE OF SPIDER-GEDDON #1, EXTERMINATION #1, INFINITY WARS #2 – I am not sure Marvel has enough events going on at once this week… I have actually enjoyed INFINITY WARS, even though it took forever to get to the main story. I have sort of given up on most of the X-Men books again, but I will still check out EXTERMINATION in my eternal hope that they will finally be great again. It is a flickering hope at best. The Spider-Man events we have gotten over the last few years have been real fun reads, so I am curious about SPIDER-GEDDON…though I am not sure it can give us anything new after SPIDER-VERSE.

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #30 – The penultimate issue of SHATTERED GRID. Kyle Higgins last issue of MMPR. He’s done a terrific job with the first 30 issues putting a fresh spin on what POWER RANGERS always was. I am looking forward to the next chapter with Marguerite Bennett focusing on a mixed team of POWER RANGERS from across the franchise, but I am still real curious how Higgins story plays out.

AQUAMAN #39 – Part of a crossover with SUICIDE SQUAD. The Squad has come to destroy Atlantis, which you can imagine would really piss Aquaman off. I really haven’t had a lot of interest in Aquaman since New 52, but SUICIDE SQUAD has been one of my favorite series in New 52 and Rebirth, so I tend to pick up the crossovers.

BATMAN #53 – This arc with Bruce Wayne on jury duty continues to be one of DC’s most compelling series. Batman has been forced to take a hard look at what impact he’s had on Gotham, and it has been one hell of a story. Easily my favorite series the last few months.

PEARL #1 – Bendis brings some creator-owned love to DC reuniting with Michael Gaydos about an “accidental assassin.” While I enjoy Bendis’s superhero work quite a bit, I think his stand-alone creator-owned stuff is his real strength, so I can’t wait to read this one.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #6 – It took a long time to get there, but last issue we finally got to understand what was going on. Personally, I liked seeing Lex Luthor as more of a hero in the last few years, but I knew it could not last forever. Still not quite what I was hoping for from this series, but it’s slowly getting better each month.

VOLITION #1 – Aftershock’s new sci-fi series set in a world where robots are treated like second-class citizens. A virus called rust is attacking robots, and our main characters are on a quest to find the cure. I have been looking for a good sci-fi series for a long time now. I was hoping to get something great from RELAY, but it was a little boring to be honest and I couldn’t make it past the second episode. Hopefully VOLITION will be the book I am looking for.

Smaller week, gives me a chance to catch up on the last few weeks’ issues and on other comics that have been sitting on my shelves unread for way too long!

Gideon Falls #6 – One I need to catch up on ASAP, it has become one of my favorites out of Image right now. On par with Lemire/Sorrentino’s best work (i.e. Green Arrow, Old Man Logan)

Rumble #6 – New arc! I still don’t get why they restarted the numbering, it’s been a direct continuation of the original and the TPB (available now) is referred to as Vol. 04. Either way, still a fun series and I’m glad it’s back.

The Wicked + The Divine #38 – Things have been getting pretty intense lately, I’m starting to worry about the next issue (arc finale). I mean, there’s only one way a story like this can end, but it’s the road that gets us there that’s getting a bit bumpy.

Batgirl #25
Batman #53
Batwoman #18
Justice League #6
New Challengers #4
Star Wars: Poe Dameron #30
